About Me

Hey There!

I’m Sarah and welcome to The Teacher’s Wife.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

This blog began back in 2009, just a few days after we experienced the devastating loss of our first child, Andrew Ryan.  He was was stillborn {you can read more about his story here} when I was in my 39th week of pregnancy.

I started the blog as a way to process my grief and to share our story with anyone who was willing to listen.  Back then, it was more of an online journal and I’ve kept those posts up in case someone might ever find them helpful as they navigate through their own grief journey.  Click HERE to read some of those posts.

Our life has changed a lot since those dark months of intense grief and my blogging has changed as well.  I’ve realized that I absolutely LOVE blogging!

The Teacher’s Wife because I believe my first and most important role in life is wife to Kevin.

He’s a high school History teacher, so I get to hear as much about World War II as I’d like and our collection of history documentaries is always growing.  We’ve been married since 2003 and I consider Kevin to be my best friend and my hero.  You can read all about how a Mississippi boy fell in love with a Maryland girl HERE.

Aside from being mom to Andrew in heaven, I also have the privilege and blessing of being mom to our three living children, Savannah {born December 10, 2010}, Brady {born October 8, 2012}, and Davis {born October 17, 2014}. They are the apple of my eye and keep my days filled with piles of dirty laundry and lots and lots of snuggles!

Savannah Elizabeth is our rainbow baby after the storm.  I also like to think of her as our miracle baby, especially after seeing the true knot in her cord after she was born.  I absolutely love being a girl mom.

Brady Wayne surprised us when he was born with a cleft palate.  We are so thankful that God brought him through a successful cleft palate repair surgery when he was 8 months old.

We also experienced an early miscarriage in October 2013.  When we found out that our baby was a little boy, we decided to name him Charlie Burnette.

Davis John’s arrival was fairly uneventful {aside from the pain of a natural childbirth, of course}, although my pregnancy with him took a surprising turn when I developed gestational diabetes.  It was certainly a minor “complication” in the scheme of things, but it was just another reason I was so thankful to have him out of my womb and into my arms.

Our little family calls Richmond, Virginia home but I’ve lived in North Carolina {Go Blue Devils} and Maryland {Go Ravens!} and The Teacher hails from Mississippi.

I blog about the things I’m most passionate about – frugal family living, with a little bit of random thrown in for fun!

I also love Jesus and would be nothing without Him.  I’m an ordinary sinner saved by His extraordinary grace, trying to love my way through life in a way that would please him.  It’s not a perfect life, but it’s a beautiful one and we are a living testimony of restored joy.

I love coupons, bargain hunting, and trying to stretch The Teacher’s Salary as far as it will go!

I am a recovered Diet Coke addict and am obsessed over cheesy Hallmark movies.

The Bachelor is my guilty pleasure and I’d wear flip flops year-round if I could.

>I appreciate the simple things like chips & salsa or a coffee with my girlfriends and I am a self-proclaimed night owl and introvert mom.

Anything else you want to know?  Just ASK!

Thanks for stopping by!

I hope you will prop your feet up, grab your beverage of choice, and stick around for a while.  🙂

Any guesses as to what I'm doing here? I promise, Any guesses as to what I'm doing here? I promise, the kids did not play a prank on me! 😂

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."

--Allie Beth Stuckey

Thank goodness, I've learned so much as I've gone through different categories that it truly does get easier and I've actually purged prior to officially getting to this category.

Keep an eye on your bacon at first because you will need to figure out what works best for your oven and cut of bacon.
