The Teacher’s Salary Series: Ways to Save at Christmas {Make Your Gifts}

December 11, 2013 by Sarah

Today, I’m continuing my Ways to Save at Christmas mini-series.  Hopefully by now, you’ve determined your budgets, you know who is on your gift list, and you have been shopping smarter this year.  If you haven’t yet, you better GET STARTED!  πŸ™‚

With Christmas being just over two weeks away, now is the time to head towards the finish line.  And the good news is that you can still give some great gifts to the folks on your list without breaking the bank….make some of your gifts.

Pinterest would be a fantastic place to start researching, but here are some general ideas {along with a few specific ideas/tutorials} from someone who is absolutely, 100% not crafty.  These are totally doable, I promise!

1.  Food
I seriously don’t think you can ever go wrong with a consumable item.  There are so many yummy recipes out there that would make adorable gifts.  You usually don’t have to worry about your gift not being used- more than likely it will get eaten up over the holiday season with all the parties and entertaining.

2.  Spa products
With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we could all benefit from pampering ourselves just a tad.  And you don’t have to be female to enjoy some bath salts or body scrubs.  Seriously, some men need hand scrubs and bath salts just as much as women. πŸ™‚

3.  Photo gifts
I love the idea of using photos for gifts.  Relatives especially enjoy receiving gifts that include photos of their family members. There are so many creative ways to include photos on useful items, but sometimes they can get expensive when you make them on websites.  You can oftentimes find great deals on photo calendars though, so check out Shutterfly, Snapfish, or any of the others you already frequent.

Matchbox Fridge Magnets
You could make these gifts for anyone on your list, but some of these are so affordable that they’d be perfect for all the teachers, service workers, or neighbors who you’d still love to bless. It can be pricey to buy things for each of those people on your list, but this allows you to still remember them at the holidays without going over your budget.
Feel free to share some other DIY or homemade gift ideas in a comment!

    I love doing food gifts–especially for older or more 'settled' people who don't really seem to need anything, that's something that I know will actually be enjoyable for them and not just another knick-knack!

      Or if they need anything, it's way out of my price range! I can't afford flat screen TVs! πŸ™‚
