Over the years, I’ve seen lots of gifts come home with my husband at the holidays.  Here are a few gift ideas in case you need help with the male teacher in your student’s life.

1.  Gift cards

I think it’s safe to say that it’s hard to go wrong with a gift card.  When teachers are often overworked and underpaid, a small gift card can be an enormous blessing.

Any gift card will be a hit, but Amazon, Starbucks, or Barnes and Noble are favorites.  Gift cards to restaurants or movie theaters are also great too.  The dollar amount is not important.  A $5 gift card is really appreciated!

2.  A content-related item

I was a little surprised when my husband mentioned this idea. As a history/government teacher, he was referring to things like a framed copy of the Declaration of Independence or things of that nature.

Most teach because they love students and/or the subject matter, so they might enjoy something related to the subject they teach.

3.  Consumables

Since teachers spend so much time in their room, anything they could eat, drink, or snack on would be a great idea.  Or even something yummy to take home to their wives would work too!  ðŸ™‚

In my husband’s case, students could never go wrong with a 12 pack of Diet Coke or cookies (peanut butter cookies especially). Your student may need to do a little research to make sure there are no allergies!

4.  A hand-written note

I hear all sorts of stories from my husband when he gets home.  Some days, he walks in from work and won’t stop talking.  It’s a thankless job most of the time, so a nice hand-written note from a student or parent is very thoughtful.  Words of encouragement or appreciation are always so kind.

Teachers appreciate anything you give them.  The hours are long and pay isn’t great, but the littlest of things are appreciated the most.
