Frugal Fashion Friday: Maternity Wardrobe Staples Outfit #1

June 27, 2014 by Sarah

A couple of weeks, I did a post about maternity wardrobe basics.  Let’s face it, it’s hard to feel good about yourself as your waistline begins to grow at a quick rate and you feel like you are waddling around like a duck.
Thankfully, from what I understand from my mother and grandmother, maternity clothes have come a long way.  I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen some downright cute expectant mothers rocking it!  While I won’t go as far as to say that I’m one of those people, I did want to share a recent outfit I wore while on vacation last week.
After researching for the maternity wardrobe basics posts and looking through what I already had on hand, I headed out to look for a few items to add to my own maternity wardrobe for a reasonable price.  Since I had some rewards to spend and had a gift card, I stopped at Old Navy and picked up a few things.
Here’s my maternity wardrobe basics outfit #1, with many of the items I purchased.

V-neck Tshirt // Old Navy
Tank // Old Navy
Skirt // Old Navy
Bubble Necklace // Charming Charlie
This outfit was incredibly comfortable.  These pictures were taken in our hotel after we had been travelling back from vacation for about 12 hours {hence the door open in the background and my bare feet}.  I intentionally wore it because I wanted to be comfy and cool, and this outfit did just that!
If you remember, these are all items that I mentioned in my maternity wardrobe staples post.  I think it demonstrates the point well that combining some basic pieces with some accessories can really make for a decent outfit.  I’m planning to wear this into the fall and add some layers when the weather deems it.

What do you think of the outfit?

Anything I could have done differently?

I'm pregnant too and a maxi skirt similar to this one was a find I'm excited about because I wear it now, but since it's not maternity I will definitely be wearing it next summer too. To me, this outfit is a perfect way to play up basics – what's not to love about the addition of a fun necklace?! Especially because those always fit. 🙂

Congrats on your pregnancy, Jess! I agree completely – maxi skirts are great whether maternity or not. I wish I had discovered them sooner. And I totally agree with your thoughts on necklaces! 🙂

"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."
