I really enjoy reading. I wish I could make more time for it, but this season of life just doesn’t allow for tons of reading. That’s why when I made my goals for 2015, I kept my reading goals to one book each month. I don’t want to give up on reading altogether, but I think that’s a reasonable goal.
I know I’ve been mentioned Life Interrupted* here before. I started it a while ago with a friend from church, but we finished it up a month or so ago. This was a great read, and although it took us a while to get through it {since we were reading it and discussing it together}, it’s not a difficult read at all.
Priscilla Shirer unpacks the biblical story of Jonah, while also challenging the reader to consider how you also handle life’s interruptions. As a mom of 3 boys and someone who had her own plans for her life interrupted numerous times, she is so relatable.
At the end of the day, this book left me challenged to view the interruptions I may face as divine interventions rather than inconveniences. I was challenged to think through how I’ve responded to life’s interruptions in the past, but to also think about how I will respond to those that are to come. My hope and desire is to respond to these interruptions with surrender.
I’m very late to the party, but I finally stumbled upon the Big Mama blog a couple of years ago. I fell in love with Melanie’s writing and think she’s the funniest thing ever. As far as blogging goes, she keeps it pretty simple and it’s definitely her writing that keeps me reading her blog.
Her third book {which is a memoir on female friendship} was recently released, but I actually just got around to reading her second book titled The Antelope in the Living Room*. I still want to get my hands on her first and third book though too! I’m sure they are great reads.
Though this book is her memoir on marriage, it’s very true to Melanie’s writing style on her blog and is a perfect combination of thoughtful nuggets of truth and plain ole humor. I found myself chuckling throughout and reminded that while marriage is a lot of hard work, it’s worth every single bit of it. Merging two lives is not easy, but I was reminded to make sure and laugh! And I have to admit that I’m thankful my man doesn’t try to put antelope heads on the walls of our living room. 🙂
This was a quick read, but it made me smile throughout!
Right now, I’ve got my nose in two different books and I have another that I’d love to get to if I can. So much to read…and so little time!
