November Goals

November 2, 2015 by Sarah

This fall is flying by and I know that there will be no letting up until after Christmas.  Things have been so busy that blogging has been scarce and I didn’t even attempt October goals.  Let’s just say that my using The Teacher’s laptop for blogging came to a halt once he started graduate school.  I may have failed to mention that our family computer died back in January and we had been sharing his laptop ever since.  The good news is that I finally ordered a laptop and I am so giddy for it to arrive!

Before we just into November, here’s a little rundown on how things went for September.  Let’s just say that it turned into survival mode and wasn’t stellar.  But, I’m choosing to show myself grace and be thankful that I accomplished what I did.

1.  Have a date night with The Teacher.

We just simply could not make this one happen in September or October.  Grad school took over our schedules and we just had to muscle through until the class was over in mid-October.

2.  Have a mommy/son date with Brady.
This one didn’t happen either.  Brady and I did run some errands one day, just the two of us, but I don’t think that really counts.  It was still nice to have some one-on-one time, but I’m craving some special time.

3.  Finish up necklace board.
This has remained unfinished, but now that The Teacher’s weekends aren’t tied up with grad school, I’m thinking I can push through and finish it up soon.  Completing it will require some power tools, so I’d like to tackle it when someone else can chaperone the kiddos.

4.  Install plumbing & light fixtures in the upstairs bathroom.
We completed half of this goal, as the plumbing fixtures have been installed.  The toilet and sink look fantastic and the shower is working great.  Part of the reason we weren’t able to finish up the lighting was because I was waiting to find my shower curtain to proceed.  I’ve decided on that and hope to be able to push through and wrap things up on this bathroom reno project.

5.  Finish reading Raising Your Spirited Child*
Yes!!  I was finally able to finish this up and get it turned back into the library.  It was a very interesting read.  It was a long book, but gave me so much to think about and consider.  More than anything else, it confirmed that I need to be a better student of my children.  I’d love to write up a book review at some point with some of my takeaways.

6.  Consign/donate the kid’s clothes.
I still need to put a few bins away, but I was able to sell and donate quite a bit this fall.  I made about $150 by consigning, which was not bad since I was a “restocker” and could only list 100 items.  I’ll make sure not to miss the deadline next time so I don’t miss out on the original slots.

7.  Buy a new computer.
I am thrilled to have finally ordered a new laptop.  I am not techy at all, so picking out a laptop was very overwhelming for me.  I wanted to find something that would last for a while and be good to use for blogging.  It should be arriving soon, and I can’t wait to get it up and running.

8.  Get both vehicles inspected.
This was one goal that I knew had to happen, and it did.  The repairs for the SUV were hefty, but it was to be expected.  I’m just thankful that we had some money in our slush fund to cover it.  If you don’t have a slush fund, I’d certainly recommend one for incidentals such as car repairs.  ðŸ™‚

Here is my plan for November goals.
1.  Have a date night with The Teacher over Thanksgiving break.
This is so long overdue that it’s shameful.  Childcare expenses are always a challenge, so I’m going to plan this for when we are around family – they just don’t know it yet.  ðŸ™‚
2.  Have a mommy/son date with Brady.
I have dropped the ball with being consistent, but I want to make these happen.  They are so special.
3.  Finish reading Made to Crave* and begin The Best Yes*.
It’s hard to be consistent with reading these days, but I’m really looking forward to reading The Best Yes* with a friend from church.  I think it will be a great read for me and my people-pleasing personality.  I guess I’m on a Lysa TerKeurst kick!
4.  Brainstorm ideal blogging “office hours” and begin to implement them.
Once my laptop arrives, I’m really excited to set up some “office hours” for blogging.  I want to be intentional with blogging and I need some structure for my blog time in order to make it happen.
5.  Decorate the house before Thanksgiving weekend.
I have avoided this for a while because it seems like Thanksgiving already gets completely overlooked, but I also feel like I’m so rushed to get our decorations out in a timely manner if I wait until after Thanksgiving.  I’m going to give this a try and see how it works.

6.  Make Christmas gift shopping list and begin shopping for people.
I’ve already started thinking a little bit about this for my kids, but I’d like to make some official lists for everyone.  I need to get organize so I can stay on task and not get sucked into getting more than I need and overspending.  I’d also really like to have my shopping finished by the end of the month, but I’ll be content if I’ve at least started the shopping.  I don’t want to set the bar too high.  ðŸ˜‰
7.  Complete the necklace board project.
This is long overdue and I can hopefully knock the rest of it out in one weekend.
8.  Sell as many items as possible before Thanksgiving & put unsold items away.
I’m still trying to get rid of baby items or other items that we are no longer using.  I’d like to get a little money if possible, but I also don’t want the stuff in my “to sell pile” lying around during the Christmas season.  What doesn’t sell before Thanksgiving will either need to be put away in the attic or just donated.
There you have it.  I’ll report back at the end of the month to let you know how I did!
