Brady at 2 years

October 9, 2014 by Sarah

Life is about to get a little bit more crazy and I didn’t want to let this milestone slip past without posting.  Our Brady Boo turned 2 years old earlier this week and it’s so hard to believe how quickly he’s grown.  The time has flown by faster than I imagined!

Here is what you are up to these days.

*  You drink from a cup, but still will use sippys or straws if we have them.  Sometimes your drinking becomes playtime, but you are doing great with it and becoming so independent!

*  You can still be a picky eater at times, but you have gotten a lot better.  You may boycott something at the beginning of a meal, but I think you’ve finally realized that it’s not going to get you a different meal because you usually will eventually cave and eat at least some of what’s on your plate.

*  You sleep well at night – typically about 12-13 hours each night {bedtime at 7:30pm and wake up between 7:30-8:30am}.  You wake up happy in the mornings and talk to yourself for quite a while before you get upset and cry for us to get you.

*  You nap each day for about 1.5-2 hours – usually between 1:30-3:30pm.

*  You are still wearing size 5 diapers.

*  You are wearing some 18-24 months clothes, but I am transitioning you into 2T for the fall and winter.  You have so many cute hand-me-downs from family and friends that I barely had to buy you anything for the colder weather.  You did get some cute new clothes for your birthday and I can’t wait to see you in them once the colder weather decides to stay!

*  You are a busy boy!  You run all over and are quite a good climber.  Thankfully, you don’t climb on the table anymore, but I see you climbing over and through almost everything else.  You really have no fear, even on some of the big playground equipment where we play sometimes!

*  You have 16 teeth, but I felt one of your 2 year molars coming in on the bottom.  You still love trying to brush your teeth, although it’s mostly chewing at this point.  I’ve caught you in the medicine cabinet before licking the toothpaste – yuck!

*  You are doing much better with highchair manners.  We have to remind you not to play with food, but it usually at least stays on your tray.  🙂

*  You are doing really well with your speech therapy.  You are definitely talking a lot more than when we started in May.  We are working now on two-word and multiple-word phrases.  You are getting there and overall, I’m very pleased with how you are progressing.  My gut tells me that your cleft palate surgery isn’t going to be an issue with speech, but we will see.  The therapist says she doesn’t hear any nasality that can be common with cleft palate children.  Time will tell, but in the meantime, you really enjoy “playtime” with your therapist!  🙂

*  Your hair is growing so fast now!  It’s funny how it seemed like it took forever to finally come in, but now it seems like it’s always needing to be cut.  I’m trying to teach myself how to cut it, but we’ll see how long that lasts and how much I can improve with practice.

*  You love to play with anything and everything.  You love your sister’s toys as much as your own.  You play well by yourself too, which is nice when your sister is at preschool.  You love playing with figurines, blocks, and you play with the train table every time we are at the Children’s Museum.

*  You love your sister to death, but the two of you fight like cats and dogs too.  It used to be you tormenting her and knocking over her blocks, but she is guilty much of the time as well.

*  You love playing outside and are not afraid of the big sliding boards or swings.  You will try most anything!

*  You have been on the verge of the tantrum phase for a little while now.  I hope it won’t get too bad before you grow out of it.  There are times when you flop down when we are walking in parking lots or times when you run the opposite direction and hide from me, but I hope we’ll nip that in the bud more quickly once the new baby arrives.  It’s hard to chase after you when I feel like I’m about to pop!  I’m finding that timeouts in your crib work best.

*  You still really love music and it’s caught you trying to sing some when we are driving in the car.  You were doing this cute little dance to certain songs back in the summer, but you haven’t done that recently.

* * * * * *
Brady Wayne,
I can’t believe that you are 2 years old!  You are a little older than the age Savannah was when we brought YOU home from the hospital.  How did the time go by so quickly?  You have been a bit of handful lately, but I still love that you will let me rock you for a few minutes before bed or nap times.  I cherish those moments when it’s just you and I before bed.  I know you will have to adjust quite a bit when we bring your little brother home and part of me is so not ready for you to become a middle child.  You can be so stubborn at times, but I’m praying that we can channel it towards Godly things and that God would grab hold of you at a young age.  I pray that you will have a teachable and humble heart as you grow.  We love you so much, Brady Boo!
Love,
Mommy

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
