This lavender girl room is one of my favorite rooms in our home. It’s bright and colorful, yet cozy at the same time. After slowly working on it, I’m so excited to share it with you today!

This post has been on my to-do list for way too long! I finished this room back in the spring, but I started working on it back in August 2016. Yes, it’s taken me a year and half to get this done!! And if I were to ask our daughter, she’s been excited about this space before we even started working on it.
You see, for a couple of years she has been sharing her bedroom with her brother. It was a good experience for her, but it only made sense to bunk the boys together once she started school and had such an early wake up time. Davis was also down to 1 nap per day (he didn’t really need a separate room anymore), so it seemed like the timing was right.
While I think the experience of sharing a bedroom (even co-ed) is good for children, it was time for her to have her own space again and to have a little privacy from her brothers.
A BRIGHT & COLORFUL LAVENDER GIRL ROOM REVEAL
When I started to brainstorm girl room ideas, I knew that I wanted something other than pink (no offense to those who love pink!). I took to Google and Pinterest – typing in words like purple and lavender – and stumbled upon my inspiration.

The moment I spotted this lavender girl room, I was in love! Kate is amazing and I basically sought to imitate every detail as much as possible. I’m not as talented as she is (I believe she designed some of the fabrics herself), so I improvised quite a bit. But, this was the guidance I needed to get the lavender girl room started.
I’ll share direct links of sources when I can. In some cases, I may link to a similar item or the store where I bought it.
I began by selecting the wall color and bedding. It was easy to snag the bedding, since Pottery Barn Kids still carried it! I ultimately chose one of Abby Lawson’s favorite grey paint colors, after testing out quite a few different samples on the wall. I wanted a neutral wall color, but wanted it to go well with the lavender and aqua/blue tones I knew that I’d be using.

The layout of this room doesn’t lend itself to a nightstand, so I had to great creative. (We live in a Cape Cod style home). I used a spice rack for book storage (I painted it with Annie Sloan pure white chalk paint) and then a wall lamp. Our girl loves reading before bed and this works great!
On the wall opposite the door to enter the room (and the bed) is the window and closets. I decided to remove the old doors and use a curtain instead. The doors made the space feel smaller and they often put dings in the ceilings if they weren’t opened carefully. She uses the left closet for her clothes, which is why I hung the “dressing room” sign above the opening. 🙂

In the corner, she has a place to store her stuffed animals and has a little board to hang up any photos or drawings. I don’t let our kids put things on the walls, so I wanted her to have a dedicated space for those items that still looked nice.
After realizing I needed some pattern to break up all the white from the closet panels, I decided to make my own window treatment. I shared the window valance tutorial earlier and have been so pleased with how it turned out.
The frames on either side of the window were purchased from a thrift store and spray painted. I found some cute printables online and then purchased some fresh white mattes. I think they turned out nicely and only cost me $14!
The second closet is where she stores her toys, which is why I hung the “toy room” sign above the opening. I purchased some small plastic totes to help toy organization, but I also love being able to close the curtain when I don’t want to see everything!
In the corner, she has a place to store the rest of her books. I snagged it up from Aldi one day when I was doing some grocery shopping and it’s been perfect! You never know where you’ll find what you need for your space. 🙂

We were storing my childhood desk for years to use for our kids once they started school, but I wasn’t loving the original wood stain. I loved the turquoise desk from my inspiration picture! This antique desk makeover was my first attempt at painting furniture and I was thrilled with how it turned out.
I decided to use another piece that we already had for her desk chair. I already shared about the makeover in more detail. It looks so clean and fresh and I loved using the same fabric that I had used for the window valance.
I didn’t do anything drastic to her white dresser, but I freshened it up with a fresh coat of chalk paint and some new hardware. The DIY lamp and hair band storage on her dresser were two other little projects that I’ve shared about previously.

I’m thrilled with how this room turned out! If I’m being transparent, I tend to struggle with finishing when it comes to redecorating. I start off strong and then tend to peter out at the end, so it feels great to have this finished completely!
