Small Group Love, Thanksgiving, and Other News

December 8, 2010 by Sarah

Even though we are well into the Christmas season, I still wanted to back track a little to November before I forget.  On November 18th, the ladies in our small group spent some time loving on Savannah and I.  We had a nice meal together and were prayed over, and then I opened some gifts!  It was a nice way to celebrate our little girl in a smaller, more intimate setting.  In all honesty, this has been such a nerve-racking pregnancy, I just wasn’t up to a big shower for our little girl before she arrived.  But, don’t fear, we’re planning to do a “Meet Savannah” party once she’s here so we can celebrate our miracle with all of you!!  The ladies in the picture (minus one who was sick that night) below have been such an incredible support to us during our grief as well as this pregnancy (in addition to the many many others of you!).  Thank you so much, ladies!  Words can’t express my appreciation!

Just a week later was Thanksgiving! My family from Baltimore came down to Richmond, so Kevin and I spent a lot of time over at my grandmother’s house visiting with them.  It was a nice day but boy what a difference a year makes.  Last year was tough, no doubt, and it’s remarkable to think about how far we have come since Thanksgiving last year.  We don’t miss our little boy any less, but the Lord has restored our joy and we remember him with more fondness than the deep, deep heartbreak that we once did.  I can’t help but think of what life would have been like with him at the table on Thanksgiving, but I am content in knowing he enjoyed the best banquet table of all in heaven!  I did make a quick stop over to the cemetary – one of my college friends gave us some decorations that I was able to add to the fall flowers I already had.  Thanks for the thoughtful gesture, O!

On a totally different note, I realized I have forgotten to mention some exciting news in my family – my older sister is expecting  little boy in March!  I held off in sharing out of respect for her privacy, but once I got the okay from her to mention it here, I just completely forgot!  Anyway, after experiencing her own struggle with infertility as well as a miscarriage this past spring, we are thrilled to be having 2 additions to our family just a couple of month apart (my 6 year old niece MacKenzie will have her work cut out for her)!  Please pray for continued health for my little nephew and for peace for my sister.

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!

This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
