My Saturday Night

November 12, 2012 by Sarah

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here, but I am a huge fan of Kroger for grocery shopping.  If you don’t have one in your area, you need to call up the corporate office and tell them to open one…..STAT!

I was so tickled when I got home from Kroger last night that I just had to share a little bit from my trip.

(You know you are a dork when you are out grocery shopping on a Saturday night.)

(And you know you are a real dork when you create a blog post about how much you saved.)

Above is a picture of my receipt from my trip.  This is one of the longest receipts I’ve had from Kroger in a long time, especially since I usually shop once a week, but since we had so many folks bring us yummy dinners for the month of October after Brady was born, we needed quite a bit more than usual!  This receipt practically ran the entire length of my love seat.

So here’s the breakdown of my savings.

This trip, I opted to go through the normal checkout line (I usually use self checkout b/c I get a kick out of scanning each item and living my childhood dream of being a checkout lady).  After the lady scanned each item, the total came to $151.69.  This might not sound like much to you, but this is a lot of money for us since my monthly grocery budget is usually $225-250 at this point in the life of our family.  The good news was that this was before any sales or coupons had been deducted.

I handed the checkout lady by Kroger card and once she scanned it, things really got fun!  I had planned out my trip using one of my favorite couponing sites, so a lot of the items I purchased were on sale.  With the scan of my card, my total went down to $110.32!  Not too shabby, huh?!

Lastly, I handed the checkout lady my stack of coupons.  On an average trip, I might only use 3-5 coupons, but this trip was a goldmine for coupons!  I had quite a few manufacturer’s coupons as well as a few Kroger store coupons that I had received in the mail (some of which were for free items such as a free tub of lunch meat).  And since Kroger doubles coupons that are $.50 or less, my coupons stretch even further than at other stores.  After all my coupons, my final total was $96.74!  That’s a savings of $54.95 or 36%!  I’ll take it!
