Practically everyone and their brother has experienced the joys of the stomach bug recently. Unfortunately, Kevin and I both fell victim to it last week. It was a bummer…Kev ended up having to bail on a trip to New Jersey to help with Hurricane Sandy rebuilding and it’s just no fun to feel nauseous and feel like you can’t eat or drink a thing without paying dearly for it later. Fortunately, the kids seemed to squeak by so far!
I felt the worst on Wednesday night (vomiting every couple of hours – fun, I know!), but the vomiting stopped by the morning. While my stomach felt better, I did spend the next day in bed trying to rest up because I was so weak from not having anything left in me. Thankfully, Kev was feeling better, but had still taken a sick day to completely recover. It turned out I ended up needing him to take care of the kids while I recovered!
What I didn’t expect was the effect it would have on my milk. I continued as normal the entire time I was sick, but it didn’t seem to matter. Needless to say, it’s been super frustrating since then because I feel like I’m fighting a loosing battle to get it back. I’m used to getting at least 4-8 oz. bottles for little man to drink each day, but I’m down to this (and this was after 6 long pumping sessions today). 🙁
I’m giving myself through the weekend to see what happens because I feel like I’ve been attached to the pump ever since last week and it hasn’t been helping too much. It’s just not feasible for me to spend so much time trying to get my supply back and only see 12 ozs. in return! But, then again, I tend to be stubborn and won’t go down without a fight!
I’m blessed to have been able to do it for this long and life is way too short to loose sleep over something so silly! 🙂

Sarah, i know this is frustrating but try and hang in there. Stress can affect the milk supply too. But know that ANY breast milk you have given little man has been awesome. I was on this supplement when i tried breastfeeding Aidan and seriously i smelled like syrup. It was sooooo funny. Just keep drinking plenty of fluids and eating well and know that you are an amazing mommy regardless of the outcome of this current predicament!!
