I decided to push through and headed upstairs to the kid’s rooms, with our Dyson in tow. I started in Brady’s room, and finished fairly quickly. Once I get started, I can get lost in myself and my chore, but Savannah wouldn’t have it as it turned out.
She was playing in the room with me, with Brady right by her side. I looked down in that moment of hustle and bustle to get it all done and something within me just told me to stop. To stop… right then.
My little girl was playing, as so often she does, with her Strawberry Shortcake dolls. She was intently focused on those sweet dessert-themed friends and as I looked down at her, I didn’t want to miss it.
I sat down on the floor right next to her and she proceeded to hand them to me one at a time….Strawberry Shortcake, Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Meringue, and finally Orange Blossom.
I’m glad I decided to stop myself in my tracks because I fear that I would have missed out on a sweet moment with my little girl. I had no idea it would be, but playing “beauty parlor” with Savannah’s Strawberry Shortcake dolls was the highlight of my morning. They look so much better, if I do say so myself. 🙂
Yes, her room didn’t get vacuumed right when I had planned and it pushed back Brady’s morning nap since that’s where we were playing, but I’m so glad I slowed down long enough for some priceless time with my girl.
And later in the day, I was blessed to get some extra snuggle time with her after she had woken up from her nap. Fortunately for me, she wasn’t quite finished and she fell back asleep while we were cuddling on the couch. It turns out she’s quite a little snorer, but I’ll take it any day of the week.
These are the moments that I want to etch in my memory forever. I don’t want to miss them, even if it does mean my house is a little dirtier or naptimes are sometimes a little shorter. 🙂
