Frugal Fashion Friday – Old Navy Edition

August 30, 2013 by Sarah

So I mentioned doing some shopping at Old Navy last weekend.  I wasn’t planning to buy anything at all since our clothing budget was already spent, but I ended up with a couple of items that were at great prices, so I did what I mentioned in my post from Tuesday and course-corrected – ha!

While I was trying on one of the items, I made sure to grab the chambray shirt that I’ve been convinced needs to be one of the next pieces to enter my wardrobe {along with the black leggings and brown boots shown here}.

Sheaffer’s denim shirt post was essentially the entire inspiration for my outfit.  I guess you could say, Sheaffer told me to rather than Pinterest telling me to – ha!  πŸ™‚

Anyway, while I was at it, I grabbed a couple of other items that I thought might look cute to complete the look.  Here’s what I came up with.

I grabbed a light peach colored cami to go underneath.  I paired the shirt with both the white shorts and the khaki shorts, but definitely like it with the white.  I like the contrast.
I also grabbed this simple but pretty necklace.  I don’t have anything like it and I think it would go great with tons of things.  I’ve been a little surprised at some of the cute and reasonably priced jewelry at Old Navy and already have my eye on some other items.

I didn’t think about a cute shoe, so you just get to see my summer staple – flip flops!  Surprise, surprise!  πŸ™‚

My cost estimates are below:
****************************************************
Shirt: Old Navy Chambray Shirt – on sale for $20
Cami: Old Navy V-Neck Cami – on sale for $3

Shorts:  Old Navy Everyday Khaki Shorts {5 in.} – $7.99

Necklace: Old Navy pendant necklace – can’t remember exactly {sorry!} but I think $10 or so
Earrings: Target gold ball earring – $5 on clearance
Brown Flip Flops: Old Navy – $1 on flip flop day πŸ™‚
****************************************************

I had a fun time trying a few things on and scoring some more cheap shorts to wear for next summer {along with a pair of nude ballet flats for $7.50}.  I’m loving the denim shirt idea and was convinced that I would wear it a ton, but I want to see what some other stores might have before committing to this one.  {My sister says I over analyze way too much – ha!}  I’d also love to get it a little cheaper than $20 if I can.  I may also need to try on the one with polka dots as well.  He he he.

Let me know if you have a favorite denim shirt.  If so, let me know where you snagged it!

Happy Frugal Fashion Friday!

a chambray shirt is a must! i bought one from old navy last fall and i love it. i wear it with colored skinny jeans and it looks great. i also roll up the sleeves so it looks a bit more casual.

I'm so late to the game, but yes, they seem like they'd go with tons of stuff (during all seasons)! Since I just bought my first pair of skinny jeans this past spring, I have a feeling I'll be sporting some colored ones soon. πŸ™‚

I have a couple denim shirts in different shades–they are very versatile and they'll last forever!! It's definitely a good buy.

Rachel, I've actually been wondering about shade. I'm not sure whether to go light denim or more the shade in my picture above. I'd eventually love both at some point (along with the polka dotted one too)!

I've been loving my chambray shirt, too. And this outfit is great… super cute, and so easy to transition to fall!

Thanks, Katie! I love hearing that so many people get good use out of their denim shirts. I'd like to visit a couple more stores and try on their selection before committing though. I'm thinking I just may need to work on that tomorrow while the hubby if off for Labor Day! πŸ™‚
