Light the Night Walk & Finishing “The Help”

October 29, 2013 by Sarah

Happy Monday, friends!  I hope you had a great weekend.  Ours was a good mix of productivity around the home front (mostly raking up leaves in the front yard) and some good fun with friends.  We were pretty worn out by last night, but it was a good type of tired.

On Saturday evening, we were honored to participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk with some of our friends.  Our friend, Bobby, is a survivor {diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia} and it was a true blessing to walk in support of him and the society’s efforts to find a cure for these cancers!  We hope a lot of money was raised!

We bundled up the kids and had a great time walking the streets of Carytown.  Kev pushed the stroller for the majority of the time, but Savannah did get to walk some of it and even managed to get some piggy backs and shoulder rides towards the end.  Brady was as content as could be, although his little hands did not want to stay warm.

We enjoyed some fun at Arby’s after the walk was over.  The kids were worn out, but they had just as much fun as we did.

Although it was a celebratory time for us, I couldn’t help but feel burdened for many other folks who I saw walking in memory of loved ones, oftentimes children.  It’s heartbreaking, but we are thankful that God has given people knowledge to develop medications for treatments.  I pray that someday, a cure for cancer will be found.  What a special night it was.  We hope to make it a tradition if possible.

On a totally different note, I finished The Help.  If you forgot, that was one of the books on my fall reading list.  I actually finished it a few weeks ago and practically read the entire thing in about 2 days.  I absolutely loved the book and can’t wait to watch the movie at some point.  I was actually planning to do a mini book review in tonight’s post, but the ideas are still swirling around my head at this point, so I need a little more time to process my thoughts.  It was a great read, but in many ways, a tough read for me.  I’ll post more about my thoughts on the book next week.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?
