Five on Friday

January 4, 2014 by Sarah

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG
In lieu of my Frugal Fashion Friday post this week, I thought I’d link up today with Darci at The Good Life Blog for Five on Friday.  Such a great idea since my brain is very foggy from the long drive home.
{ONE}
Charming Charlie is my new obsession for accessories and jewelry.  I’ve been in that store maybe 5 times total, but I fall more in love with it every time I visit.  During our visit to Mississippi, we made numerous trips to the mall and I stopped by the store twice.  The first time, I got 1 pair of earrings and 1 necklace as part of a Christmas gift, but then I went back with my mother-in-law and got 3 necklaces {not pictured below}.  I loved lots of the pieces from the Overboard collection – especially this beauty.  I have no clue what I’d wear it with, but it totally caught my eye!

We officially made it home to good ole’ Virginia.  We had such a great trip and Kev and I both got all reflective on our drive home, wondering if we could be happy living in some of the cities we passed along the way – Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC to name a few.  While I think we could be happy in some other cities or towns, Richmond, VA is home now and we are happy here.  Are we the only one who do that on road trips?

{THREE}
This Monday I will be returning to Weight Watchers to face the scale.  I was within 3 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight before our miscarriage and I haven’t gotten back in a good groove since.  I’ve given myself enough grace and now it’s time to give myself a good kick in the pants!!  I’m actually going to crunch some numbers and see if we could swing a membership at the Y because I have missed it quite a bit.
 {FOUR}
Travelling in our SUV this year was so much nicer than our Corolla.  Last year, we made the trip in our Toyota Corolla and to say it was cramped would be a major understatement.  It was such a blessing to be able to spread out a little bit and made for a much more bearable drive.  It also helped that our youngest wasn’t needing to eat every 3-4 hours.  Oh, what a difference a year makes.  This picture was taken a year ago in our hotel on the way back home.  They were babies I tell ya!

{FIVE}
On the way back home from our trip, we stopped over in Greenville, SC and spent the night in a cheap motel.  While I was not impressed with the motel, I was really impressed with Furman University’s campus.  We drove around the campus on our way out this morning, but I totally fell in love with it.  I think I went to college at the most beautiful campus in the country, but Furman was right up there with University of Richmond.  And since it’s the dead of winter, that’s saying something because I can guarantee it is even more beautiful in the spring when there are leaves on the trees.  If I were 18 years old and applying to college again, Furman would be on my list.  Just sayin….

 Happy Friday, friends!

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

Happy Friday!!
This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful?  Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."

--Allie Beth Stuckey
