My 15 Goals for 2014 {June Update}

July 7, 2014 by Sarah

I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend.  We have had a great time celebrating with my family.  It’s nice to visit family, but it’s always nice to get back home too.

It’s time for my monthly goal check-in for the month of June.  I have to be honest and confess that I need to regroup and re-commit to these goals.  I’ve not been making a conscious effort with them lately and I’d like that to change this second half of the year.  I’m going to try printing them out and posting them on my mirror, so they are at least visible.  “Out of sight, out of mind” tends to be the case with me far more than I’d like to admit.

Marriage
1.  1 date night each month {can be at home dates but must be 1 date out each quarter}
2.  Enjoy 1 weekend away or attend 1 marriage conference
3.  Read 1-2 marriage books

Mothering
4.  1 play date and/or date night with Savannah each month
5.  Attend dotMom or some other motherhood conference

Personal
6.  Read 12 books this year {ongoing}
7.  Work to get 7 hours of sleep each night {ongoing}
8.  Finish my year-long devotional book  {ongoing}
9.  Begin exercising again

Blogging
10.  Plan blog posts 1 month out
11.  Submit 4 guest posts to blogs I enjoy
12.  Read 1-2 books on blogging {completed 1 book}

Financial
13.  Fully-fund our emergency fund {ongoing}
14.  Save up to purchase some extra insurance this summer {ongoing}
15.  Buy a new computer {working on #13 and #14 first and then we’ll move on to this one}

Victories

– We enjoyed a play date with one of Savannah’s church friends early in the month.  It was good to get the girls together and it’s always nice to have some Mommy time too!
– I’ve been going to bed a little later than I’d like, but I’ve still been able to manage to get 7 hours of sleep on most nights.
– We are getting really close to our first emergency fund goal.  Kev will be doing some training for the National Guard later this summer, so his extra paycheck should help.
Challenges

– Kev and I dropped the ball on our date night in June.  We did have a short double date while we were on vacation in Florida, but weren’t able to get one planned this month.  We will make it happen this month!

– It’s been a struggle to find time for extra reading and I’m falling way behind.  I have some catching up to do if I will have any hope of reading my total of 12 books this year.  I haven’t revisited 1000 Gifts yet, but am still working through Life Interrupted with a church friend.  Our women’s group at church is starting The Relationship Principles of Jesus, so that should be good as well.

– I should probably just take goal #9 off my list because it’s looking like it’s not going to happen during this season of life.  I’ll probably wait until after this baby is born to start up any type of exercise program.  I do try to stay as active as I can though.  My kids keep me fairly busy too, but I know it’s not the same!
– I haven’t been able to plan my blog schedule out as far as I’d like, but it’s getting better.  I’ve got my posts topics planned at least a week out and I’m working on getting them written and ready to publish early as well.  It’s a journey and I’m seeing progress, so that’s good.

    What a great goal to fund your emergency fund. I know this can be hard but such a comfort when you have it in place!

      Thanks so much for your encouragement, Lydia. I will feel relieved when it's fully-funded again and I'm so happy to that we're getting so close! 🙂

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.

Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!

Can they be helpful?  Absolutely!

This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
