My 15 Goals for 2014 {May Update}

June 2, 2014 by Sarah

I’ve missed the past couple of months of posting about how I’m doing on my goals.  And because I took my blogging break, I pretty much failed at really being intentional with my goals, since I wasn’t blogging about them.  Just being honest!  I’ll still report on how I did, but in June I’m going to actually try to work deliberately on them.

Here we go!

Marriage
1.  1 date night each month {can be at home dates but must be 1 date out each quarter}
2.  Enjoy 1 weekend away or attend 1 marriage conference
3.  Read 1-2 marriage books

Mothering
4.  1 play date and/or date night with Savannah each month
5.  Attend dotMom or some other motherhood conference

Personal
6.  Read 12 books this year {ongoing}
7.  Work to get 7 hours of sleep each night {ongoing}
8.  Finish my year-long devotional book  {ongoing}
9.  Begin exercising again

Blogging
10.  Plan blog posts 1 month out
11.  Submit 4 guest posts to blogs I enjoy
12.  Read 1-2 books on blogging {completed 1 book}

Financial
13.  Fully-fund our emergency fund {ongoing}
14.  Save up to purchase some extra insurance this summer {ongoing}
15.  Buy a new computer {working on #13 and #14 first and then we’ll move on to this one}

Victories

– Kev and I weren’t diligent about planning a date night ahead of time, but it worked out that we did have a night out together when we attended a wedding last weekend.  Since we were totally alone, I’m not sure whether it counts as a date, but I’m going to count it anyway!
– We enjoyed a fun play date with one of Savannah’s preschool friends at the beginning of the month.  I feel like we may have had another one, but I can’t seem to remember and I didn’t see another one written on the calendar.
– I’ve been doing very well with getting at least 7 hours of sleep.  I hate to say it, but not blogging as regularly has helped with that one.  I’d love to get in the habit of getting in bed by 10pm and getting up at 6am each day, so then I can still blog in the mornings before the kids wake and at nap time while also getting 8 hours of sleep (which is my ideal amount).
– We’re slowly making progress on our emergency fund.  It’s taking longer than I’d like, but we’re getting there.  Kev is planning to work this summer (his teaching paycheck is spread across 12 months), so we’re planning to dump as much of that extra money into the emergency fund until we have reached our goal!
Challenges

– I’ve gotten behind a bit in my reading.  If I’m remembering correctly, I’ve only read 1 book this year!  🙁  I’ve started on 1000 Gifts and Life Interrupted, but haven’t finished them yet.  I’m reading Life Interrupted with a friend from church, so we’re going at our own pace, but I need to finish up 1000 Gifts ASAP!
– I haven’t exercised at all this month.  It’s not looking like a membership to the Y is going to happen at this point, but I need to do something.  I may need to break out my Pilates videos to do while the kids nap.  It’s a short video and would be something.
– I need to get back in the swing of a blogging schedule.  I may need to plan a personal retreat day so that I can spend some in-depth time planning out some posts and actually working on some guest post submissions.  I haven’t worked on a single one at this point.  🙁
