Welcome Savannah Open House

March 4, 2011 by Sarah

I can’t believe March is here!  Where on earth did February go?  Things have been busy here – not really that I’ve been doing a ton, but just busy taking care of Savannah and trying to keep things going here on the home front.  As you mommies know, taking care of a 2.5 month old is a full time job in and of itself with all the feedings, much less all the other things that need to get done in order to keep this household running (and I have to confess I haven’t been doing as good a job as I’d like in that area, but that’s another post for another day).
Before we get too far into March, I did want to share a few of the happenings from the month of February.  When I was pregnant with Savannah, people approached me about whether we were doing a baby shower for her.  I went back and forth about it in my mind, and after a lot of thought, we opted against it.  Not that we didn’t want to celebrate our girl, but I was just too anxious about things to really be able to enjoy doing a shower.  We were blessed to have 2 showers when I was expecting Andrew, both of which were late in the pregnancy.  At that point, it was only a matter of a few weeks before we thought we’d be bringing him home.  A pretty safe time to celebrate, right??  Well, we all know how that worked out.  Sad to say, but it sort of stole the joy out of having baby showers before Savannah was born.
So, on February 13th, we held an open house to welcome our gal!  We wanted to include as many people as possible, so we opted to have it at our church instead of our home.  We had such a wonderful turnout!  Not that it was about numbers, but it was such a testimony of the amount of support we have had through the past year and a half.  God has been so faithful in surrounding us with support and prayer warriors, so seeing so many people come out to the open house was just another reminder of his goodness.  Thanks to all who helped out and everyone who came!
During the open house, we had a slide show running with pictures from our first couple of months with Savannah.  The night before, Kevin was finishing it up and adding music to the slide show.  I had selected a couple of songs that had been so meaningful to me right after we lost Andrew, and wanted them to be included in the slide show.  After Kevin had finished everything, we sat back in bed and watched it all the way through.
I started balling.  I was so overwhelmed with emotion as I thought back to where we were at this time last year.  We were making our way through such a deep valley, and seeing those pictures put to those songs just reminded be of how faithful the Lord has been.  I sobbed to those songs a year and half ago and here we are now, with another beautiful baby.  What a remarkable blessing she has been to us!  I hope that we were able to express our thankfulness to everyone who came, as well as allow the event to bring God glory!
A friend of ours was gracious enough to take pictures  for us since we were so busy talking with everyone!  Sorry I didn’t post more of them.  The files were so large and I was getting impatient with waiting to upload each one!

We went with a Valentine theme, so Savannah was decked out in her Valentine dress.  I love the smocking at the top!

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.

Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!

Can they be helpful? Absolutely!

This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
