A Whirlwind

April 3, 2012 by Sarah

The past month has been a whirlwind….and it doesn’t look like it’s about to calm down anytime soon!  After a week’s delay, we finally closed on our new home!  As I told a couple of friends, it was a huge relief to actually reach the point of closing.  I felt like we had been staring at a huge mountain for a month (there was a month in between when we sold our old home and closed on the new one), so it’s somewhat a relief to know we can now begin the climb!  The anticipation of all the work we had ahead of us was starting to weigh on me, so it’s nice to actually be able to do something about it!

I said all that before closing, and now that we have been back to the house with our own set of keys, I am realizing just how big of a mountain we are climbing.  I laugh about it now, because I seriously underestimated how long it would take us to get this home livable.  It’s still all cosmetic, but I didn’t realize just how bad the bathrooms were!  I thought it was all going to be paint and refinishing hardwoods, but it’s looking more and more like we will be renovating at least 1 bathroom as well!  It should be interesting!  And by the way, I just have to express how much I loathe wallpaper!  I also will never understand why people choose to paint over the wallpaper numerous times!  AHHHHH!

We did a lot of the same work at our old home before moving in, but I seriously forgot how hard the work really is.  And I’m not as young as I was then, and we also have a little girl that takes up a lot of time, so we don’t have the flexibility to just run over to the house and work at any time of the day.  It will all work out though.  We have seen the Lord’s hand through the entire process, so we know this was the house He had for us.  He overcame every obstacle that arose when we would have been alright with walking away had it been His will.  He is a mighty God and if He overcame the grave, I know he can help us overcome our home improvement projects on a limited budget!

I do hope to blog about the house as we proceed, but I’ll have to try and work it around my limited internet access.  I am hoping we can work on what will be the new office soon, so we can at least get internet hooked up at the new house soon.  Driving 15 minutes to the local library gets old real fast, so it would be nice to be able to at least jump online while we are working at the new house!

I hope you all are well!  Just wanted to check in and say “hey!”

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
