My Lunch Hour

May 22, 2013 by Sarah

I absolutely love being a stay-at-home mom!  I wouldn’t trade it for the world!  But, if I’m honest, I do miss a few things about working outside of my home.  One of those things being lunch hour!  I loved being able to step away from my desk (I worked in a corporate setting the majority of that time) and just leave it all behind for 1 entire hour.  My particular company was super flexible, so I could take my lunch break most any time I wanted/needed depending on how I wanted/needed to utilize my lunch break.

There were some days when I’d slip on down to the cafeteria and eat my packed lunch.  There were others when I’d have to run out to do an errand.  And my favorite days were when some of us would splurge and eat out!  Have I mentioned that I love eating out?  If money and calories were not an issue, I’d eat out for every meal!  🙂

Obviously, since I quit my job outside of the home to be with these precious little ones full-time, my lunch hour has changed dramatically.  First off, the whole concept of a lunch hour no longer exists in my house.  I eat when I can and more often than not, it lasts about 5 minutes!  And there is no putting my work down and leaving my work desk so I can eat in peace around here.  There is usually someone who needs my attention while I’m eating, or at least there’s the possibility of someone needing me while I’m scarfing down eating my lunch.

Secondly, lunchtime is no longer a break, but it is actually work!  While getting our lunches prepared and on the table is not a monumental task, there is nothing break-like about it.  Savannah is pretty self-sufficient when it comes to actually feeding herself, but little Brady man requires my full attention.  He’s so stinkin’ cute so I really don’t mind!  And did I mention the clean up? Oh, the cleanup!  🙂

While it’s true that my lunch hour days are over (at least for a while), I could not imagine spending my lunches with anyone else.  Once they are in school, I know I will miss these lunch dates and wish that I could eat with them every day.  I probably won’t know what to do with my quiet lunches!

Not only that, but there are some days when we get to grab lunch out with some friends.  Or we may get something at McDonald’s and enjoy our unhealthy lunches out on the patio.  We try to change it up a bit when we can!  And while I truly do enjoy my new kind of lunch hour, did I mention what comes right after?

NAPTIME!

Naptime makes for the best dessert!

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!

This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
