Brady at 8 Months

June 30, 2013 by Sarah

Happy 8 months, Brady Wayne!

You had a busy month!  Between your big surgery and all the other summer activities, it’s flown by so fast!
Here is what you are up to these days.

* You get 4 bottles a day and drink about 7 ozs. at a time.  You are still using your Medela Special Needs Feeder bottle.  The doctors said that more than likely you would not want to switch to a standard bottle this late in the game (or be interested in nursing).  I wouldn’t dare try and change it now since your mouth is still healing anyway.  I plan to let you start trying out sippy cups soon too once you’re mouth is healed better.  Since I am only pumping about 3 times a day, my milk supply is definitely dwindling.  We’re using as much breast milk as we can, but supplement with formula when it’s needed and you take it so well!  I’m so thankful for good formulas!

* You continue to enjoy your solids!  Your menu typically looks like this – Breakfast: milk/oatmeal/fruit, Lunch: milk/orange veggie/fruit, and Dinner: green veggie/oatmeal/fruit.  I have started offering you the dissolvable puffs for snacks and you gobble them up!  I was holding off a little on finger foods until your surgery, so it will probably be full steam ahead this next month.
* You are sleeping about 11-12 hours at night which has been wonderful! Your last bottle is at 7:00pm and then you are in bed until the morning. You will play quietly for quite a while.  I love it when you wake up happy!

* You are taking 2 naps each day. You are awake for about 2 hours in the morning before you take your morning nap at around 9:30am. You have been sleeping 1.5-2 hrs. You are awake for about 2 more hours before you take your afternoon nap around 1-1:30pm and sleep at least 2 hours as well.
* You are wearing size 3 diapers. You weighed in at 19 lbs. 13 ozs. at your appointment before your surgery.
* You are wearing some 6-9 months clothes, but I am switching you over to more and more 9-12 months clothes.  It’s been fun to see those boy clothes in your dresser – such a contrast to your sister’s outfits!

* You are so so so very close to crawling {UPDATE: as of early July, you are crawling}.  You spend lots of time going from sitting up to on your belly to making circles on the floor.  It’s so fun to watch you find ways to get to the toys or objects on the floor that you want.  Your sister has no idea what is about to hit her!

* You will still play in your Exersaucer some, but being on the floor is just as fun for you!

* You finally cut your 2 bottom teeth earlier this month!  I was hoping the drool would slow down for a little bit, but it hasn’t in the least!  You put anything and everything in your mouth, so we have to really watch you!

* You are still a grabber and love to play with my earrings or other jewelry.  The other day you kept touching the stones in my rings.  I guess you liked the texture or feeling all the bumps!  So cute!

* You are saying Ma-Ma!  I know you aren’t calling me Momma specifically, but it’s still really cute!  I am completely convinced now that your little fluid-filled ears were not allowing you to hear at 100%.  I think you are making more sounds and more reactive to loud sounds.  I have also noticed that you cry louder!  Or maybe that’s just you exerting more and more of your opinion!  🙂  We are thankful for those ear tubes.

* You really are a chill baby and have completely amazed us by your recovery from surgery.  I’ll post more updates on that later, but you really impressed me with how resilient you are!  You are a delight and make our family dynamic so fun!

* You continue to love your sister so much!  You smile at her all the time and laugh at all of her crazy antics!  You two will be a riot as you get older – that is, in between all the fighting over toys!  🙂

Brady Wayne, what a month you have had.  You’ve gone with the flow so well – between visits to Baltimore and visits from your grandparents in Mississippi and a major surgery, you have been quite the trooper!  You are growing so quickly and are already showing me how life with a boy will be different than life with a little girl!  You are so busy already!  We love you to the moon and back, Brady Boo!

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
