Brady at 12 Months

October 25, 2013 by Sarah

First off, thank you so much for your sweet responses to my post about our miscarriage.  Your friendship, support, and love is such a blessing!  That is by far one of my favorite parts of blogging – the incredible community – so thank you again!

Now, it’s time to celebrate Brady being 12 months old!

Happy 12 months, Brady Wayne!

Where has this past year gone?  I know it sounds cliche, but it literally flew by faster than I imagined possible!  You are growing up so fast, but I still see you as our little boy.  I know it won’t last forever, so I’m enjoying it while I can!

Here is what you are up to these days!

* You are done with bottles and completely transitioned to the sippy cup with whole milk!  I wasn’t sure how long it would take, but it sort of clicked when you turned 1 a couple of weeks ago.  You were still messy with it, but definitely had it figured out.  I was still afraid you weren’t drinking enough, so I kept offering you bottles with milk occasionally after meals to supplement.  But, when I asked the ped about it at your well check, she encouraged me to just quit the bottles cold turkey since you had shown your ability and we didn’t want you to depend on your bottles.  She was right and you’ve been doing great!  You guzzle it down  now!

*  You are a pretty good eater these days and eating as much or more than your sister.  Sometimes you are picky and prefer certain foods over others, but you will usually eventually eat everything on your tray.  We finally introduced you to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and you love them!  You enjoy fruits and most veggies and inhaled meatballs just the other night!  It seems like you are a meat and potatoes kind of boy!  Either I’m not remembering or there’s not much you absolutely won’t eat.  We hope it will continue!!

*  You are sleeping about 11-12 hours each night.  You are usually down by 7:30pm and are up between 7-7:30am.  You usually wake up very happy in the morning and often play by yourself for a bit while I hop in the shower.

*  You are still getting 2 naps each day, but your morning nap is getting less reliable and shorter, which is not surprising.  Some mornings you will sleep 45 minutes, 1.5 hours, and others you won’t sleep at all.  You are usually okay if you miss your morning nap, but you are not ready to give it up altogether.  You usually sleep about 2 hours in the afternoon {from 1-3pm}.

*  You are wearing size 4 diapers, but I may need to bump you up to size 5 soon.

*  You are weighing in at 21 pounds 13 ounces {25-50%} and measuring 29.5 inches long {25-50%}.

*  You are wearing 12-18 months clothing, but some of your pants are a little long at this point.  You look so adorable in your long-sleeved shirts and khakis.  Such a preppy little boy!  I love outfitting a little girl, but I am a sucker for preppy boy clothing!!  🙂

 * You have taken a few steps here and there, but I can’t say you are an official walker just yet.  You are getting there though.  You still crawl the majority of the time {this cute little peg-leg type of crawl}, but are cruising more and more too.  You will also walk some if we stand up behind you and hold your hands.

*  You are becoming quite the climber and will quickly climb up the first few steps if I don’t keep a close eye on you.  You are also developing quite a reach and can grab things off the table or desks now.  And the trashcans, forgetaboutit!

*  You have 5 teeth now, with your 6th coming through as we speak {4 up top and 2 on bottom}.  You still like to grind your teeth sometimes and it drives me crazy!!

* You and Savannah are something. You love being where she is and love playing with all of her toys {and she loves yours too}. If I don’t referee, I may find the two of you wrestling too. You can be pretty quick at grabbing toys from her and laugh as you crawl away with them. I hear lots of, “No, Brady, No!” around the house these days.

*  You are slowly learning some of the signs at mealtime, which is helpful when you have a tendency to want to scream.  You have learned “more” and “all done,” but it still takes a lot of encouragement for you to do them.

*  You are talking more and more these days.  I love hearing your noises and can’t wait until I can understand what you are actually saying.  You have said Ma-Ma so far, but I haven’t heard Da-Da yet.  You’ll get there!  That’s about it for actual words, but you are definitely making noises and communicating the way you know how!  Also, at your recent audiology screening, you passed the test with flying colors!  They were so pleased with your results this time – I think it was the Cheerios that made the difference {and kept you still}!

*  You are going to need a little trim very soon.  You still have mostly peach fuzz, but it’s getting a little too long in the back for my taste.  If I’m not careful, you’ll have a mullet soon.  You are definitely strawberry blonde, which I think is so cute!!

*  You are struggling with a little bit of eczema on the back of your legs.  I’ve been using Aquaphor, but have recently bought some hydro cortisone cream per your doctor’s suggestion.  At this point, it’s limited to the back of your knees on each leg and it doesn’t seem to bother you too much, but it looks pretty yucky.  I hope it will clear up soon!

Brady Wayne,

What a sweet year we have had.  It’s been a challenge to adjust to life with 2 babies at home, but it has been worth every second.  I truly can’t remember what it was like without you with us, which I guess is a good thing.  Already, you have overcome obstacles that are giving you a testimony for the Lord.  We pray that you will develop a love for Jesus that will be contagious to others around you.  We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you, little man.  We are so thankful for your sweet spirit and easy going personality.  I’ve been squeezing you even tighter than usual these past few days and you don’t seem to mind.

I Love you so much,
Mommy

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
