Brady at 18 Months

April 22, 2014 by Sarah

Time is flying by and we now have an 18 month old!

Here is what you are up to these days.
* You are drinking whole milk from the sippy cup and have mastered the straws now too.  You can drink from a cup as well, but straw cups are a little cleaner so we love them!  🙂

* You are a decent eater, but I feel like you are going through a picky stage.  You usually do great with breakfast and lunch, but dinners can be interesting.  I try not to make a huge deal over it, but we just serve you what we are eating and you eat what you eat.

* You sleep about 12 hours each night, going to bed at 7:30 pm and waking between 7:30-8:00 pm.  You often will play in your crib for a bit and are happy when you wake.

* You are napping once a day in the afternoon.  You typically sleep between 1-3:00 pm, but sometimes it’s up to 3 hours if you are really tired.  I put you down and just let you sleep as long as you will.
* You can still wear size 4 diapers, but you aren’t going to be in them for very much longer.  I’m using up what we have left and then you’ll probably be more comfy in size 5.

* You are weighing in at  25 pounds 9 ounces {50%} and measuring 33 inches long {75%}.
* You are wearing mostly 18-24 months clothing, but you can still fit into some of your 18 months pants which has been helpful in this transitional weather.  You look like such a big boy!
* You are walking very well and starting to run quite a bit.  It’s the cutest little run ever.  You still love climbing, but have learned how to come up and down stairs safely, which puts me a little more at ease.  You have finally learned that climbing onto the kitchen table is not allowed, but I’ve seen you try a couple of times when you think I’m not looking.  🙂
* You have 12 teeth now (6 on top and 6 on bottom).  Your one year molars are finally in on the top and bottom.  I think you are working on your incisors now.  You enjoy using your toothbrush to brush your teeth!
* You are still working on your highchair manners.  When you get frustrated, you will throw food and your cup.  We’ve started using timeouts and they do seem to help your attitude when they are finished.  You are a strong-willed little guy!
* You are talking some, but not a whole lot.  We met with the early intervention folks in our county and you do qualify for services because you are delayed in your expressive language.  I sensed you were delayed, so it’s good to have some speech support and a plan in place that we can start working on soon!  You can say a number of words (Ma-Ma, Da-Da, yes, no, bye-bye, night-night, bubbles, Bible, uh-oh, hi, thank you, along with some sounds and body parts), but you are very inconsistent with them.  Once you are talking more, hopefully we can determine whether your cleft palate will have any residual affects on your speech.
* You recently had your first official haircut.  You had a little trim back at Christmas, but this was your first cut in the big chair.  Your mullet is gone and you look like such a big boy sitting there.  Everyone says you have strawberry-blonde hair, so we’ll see whether it changes as you grow.
* You love playing with toys and looking through the pages of books.  You will sit by yourself for quite a while and play with your toy pegs or figurines and thumb through your board books.  You love taking this out of things and then putting them back (including my clean laundry) and you have started to enjoy Play-Doh.
* You love being with your sister, but the two of you are still working on sharing and playing well together.  Most of the time Savannah always wants the toy you have, but I’ve seen you snatch things out of her hands and run away too.  I’m sure this is just the beginning, but it can be draining at times.  You also have some priceless moments too where you hug and kiss on each other, so I know you love her to pieces.
* You love playing outside and I’m so glad the weather is improving so we can get out more.  You love riding in your Cozy Coupe or just sitting in the sand box and digging.  I think we’ll have more sand outside the sandbox than in before the summer is over.  🙂
* You are finally able to sit in a timeout.  For a while there, I had to sit in front of you the entire time and place you back down repeatedly, but you are finally getting the hang of it and will eventually comply.  It’s sort of pitiful, but it usually helps your demeanor afterwards.
* You enjoy music and love to dance or clap along when it is on.  You shake back and forth if you are in the car and sway from side-to-side if you are standing.  It’s the cutest thing ever.
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
Brady Wayne,
These past 3 months have been so fun.  I feel like you are slowly becoming more manageable and I am starting to be able to take my eyes off you for a second without you climbing up on the table.  You are still a busy boy and into everything, but I can see some maturing with every month.  You are a strong-willed little guy and can have a temper when you don’t get what you want, but I’m hoping we can channel that strong-will for the Lord and that you will follow Him with a passion someday.  We love you so much and look forward to what is in store over the next few months!  We love you to pieces!
Love,
Mommy

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
