Our trip to Charleston was such a blast! I posted about my preparations for the trip and then I was basically unplugged for the entire time! It was so nice to get away and I certainly could have stayed longer, but it’s always nice to be back home! Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder, although I am already pretty fond of my precious family!

Our day on Thursday started out pretty early. We opted to rent a car so that no one had to worry about the wear and tear on their vehicles, but that meant we had to pick up the car at the airport on our way out of town. We wanted to maximize the rental and also get a head start on the drive! We were on the road out of Richmond by 7:30am!
When we realized we were all the babies in our families, we named our trip “Baby Luv 2013!” |
We were going to be staying with one of Mary’s old friends {and to clarify: by old I don’t mean age, I mean length of friendship :-)}, whose sweet family lives in Summerville, South Carolina, just 25 miles outside of Charleston. They were so kind to let us stay with them, so when we found out that 2 of their children were in North Carolina visiting their grandparents and needed a ride back home, we decided to go ahead and pick them up on our way down!
Let me just say, these kids were awesome! They were hysterical and made our trip down so much fun! I was honestly surprised by how friendly they were, considering they were riding with 2 complete strangers {they knew Mary, but April and I had never met them before}. After spending just a little time with these kids, I knew that the rest of the family would be a ton of fun too!
Despite a number of inevitable stops on the way, we made great time! We didn’t stop at South of the Border as we crossed into South Caroline, but we were able to get a picture from the highway.
After we got the car unloaded, we picked up some food for breakfast and snacks at the grocery store. I discovered that going to the grocery store is so much fun when you go with friends and are driven in a golf cart! Christina said that lots of people in their neighborhood have golf carts, but I still felt like I was at a resort in Florida. I knew then that this was going to be a great vacation!
Make sure to stop in tomorrow to hear about day 2 in Charleston {or Chal-ston, as they say in South Carolina}!
