Charleston Trip: Day 2

August 6, 2013 by Sarah

If you missed out on my post about Day 1 of our Charleston trip, click HERE to get caught up!
On Friday, we headed to the beach.  We decided to lounge at Isle of Palms for a few hours, even though April had already been to the beach earlier this summer and Mary and I are going to the Outer Banks this next week.  I’d also been hearing so many good things about Isle of Palms, so I was excited to check it out for myself.

We drove down and parked in the public parking area, which turned out to be a great idea, despite having to pay $8.  We worked hard to plan ahead so that we could keep this trip within budget!  We spent some good time on the beach and I managed to get in a little bit of reading, a short nap, and a whole lot of burning {more on that later}.  The one thing that struck me the most was how wide the beach was.  It looked like high tide had already come and that high tide comes quite far inland, but when we were there the beach was wide!

After we slipped into some fresh clothes, we headed to the Black Bean Company for some lunch!  April and Mary had heard/read some good things about it, but we were a little shocked when the GPS took us to a Medical Building in Mt. Pleasant.  It was one of their express locations, but I’m so glad that it’s smaller location didn’t deter us.  I ordered the Strawberry Fields Salad and it was fantastic.  We all loved our meals and could not stop raving about it.  The ingredients were so fresh, flavorful, filling, and priced reasonably.  I would recommend it to anyone.

Once we had full bellies, we headed over to the Maritime Center in Charleston for our Charleston Harbor Cruise.  I tried to take some pictures, but they either were too far away to see anything or they didn’t turn out.  It was a nice tour and good to hear some of the history of the harbor {Kevin would have been in heaven}, but it got a little long towards the end.  There is only so much you can really see from the water and we were pretty tired at that point.  The sun does that to you, ya know?

Since we were already in Charleston, we went ahead and stopped by Handpicked, a cute jewelry store that Christina had recommended.  I bought some earrings {sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, but I’m too tired to retake it} and Mary and April got some cute pieces as well.  I was actually on the hunt for a neon pink necklace to go along with my neon pink shorts from this post, but I wasn’t able to find exactly what I wanted.  I actually fell in love with one of Mary’s necklaces after the fact, so I may try and find it on their website and order it for myself.

After only 2 stores, I was hurting pretty bad from my sunburn and I was thankful that the girls were ready to head back to Summerville for the night.  I needed some aloe and some Ibuprofen to help with the soreness!  After we had some dinner, we had a fun time playing some cards and jamming to some 80’s tunes.  It was a great way to end a great day!

Stop back tomorrow to hear about our final day in Charleston.

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.

Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!

Can they be helpful? Absolutely!

This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
