Wow….how in the world is it already December? Thanksgiving went by so quickly and now everything I see and hear is Christmas, Christmas, Christmas! It’s a fun holiday, so I’m excited about it all, but I guess I am still not used to how quickly we move on from Thanksgiving and dive head first into Christmas. I’m still processing our fun Thanksgiving, so I figured I better post a quick recap of our weekend before the Christmas celebrations get too busy.
Our weekend started out on Tuesday evening when we got on the road up to Baltimore to visit my family. I hate that we never get to celebrate Thanksgiving with Kev’s family, but it’s just so much driving for a weekend visit. Perhaps one of these days we can fly down and celebrate with them.
We lucked out and missed the bad weather on the roads, but the drive was a little stressful with all the heavy rain. One of my good friends joined us for the holiday, but had to follow us up since she was leaving early. I think we were all happy to get off the roads on Tuesday night.
We didn’t do a whole lot on Wednesday, but my sister, April, and I headed out briefly so I could run an errand. Since we were down that way, we stopped by the large mall and looked around a bit. We may have grabbed a Starbucks drink while we were there {don’t waste any calories on the light/sugar free mocha frappuccino…total disappointment}.
On Thanksgiving Day, we did a whole lot of relaxing in the morning and watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Brady was mesmerized and Savannah really enjoyed watching between all the playtime with her cousins. It was so fun to see the James Madison University marching band – way to represent Virginia!
We had our big meal around 3pm and it was delicious. We joined my aunt and her family at their house this year {along with some other family}. My uncle is a great cook and all the side dishes that people brought were so good. We lucked out this year and only had to bring drinks.
My favorite dishes from this year’s meal were pork, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, green bean casserole, ham, and rolls. No jellied cranberry sauce for me this year and yes, the brussel sprouts were delicious. I’d actually never had them until then and I probably won’t ever try one again unless cooked like my uncle prepared them. I was too full to try every dessert, but my favorite was the pumpkin supreme pie from Bob Evans. My cousin loves them and picks them up every year – to die for, seriously.
On Friday morning, most of us headed out to see the new Disney movie Frozen. It was Savannah’s first time seeing a movie in the theater, so it was fun to experience it with her. She did so great watching the movie and got to enjoy some popcorn and some of my drink. I was really impressed with the movie and would definitely recommend it.
Since we were all together anyway, we decided to celebrate Savannah and Kev’s birthday with a mini-birthday party that evening. She loved her Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake and was spoiled rotten with some really nice presents. Kev got some loot as well, which was nice. We are planning on doing something small on their actual birthdays, so it was nice to celebrate while everyone was together this weekend.
We hit the road for home on Saturday morning which was a bummer, but we have a lot of fun things to look forward to this month. We are planning on making the most of this Christmas season and anxiously anticipating the celebration of the birth of our Savior.
