Happy Thanksgiving from the Eddins Family

November 23, 2012 by Sarah

I love Thanksgiving!

I don’t know exactly what it is about the holiday that makes me love it so much, but it seriously is one of my favorites.

Perhaps it’s the intentional reflection on the numerous things we have to be thankful for…

Or perhaps it’s the fact that it’s the start of the Christmas season…

Or maybe it’s because it always seems like a simpler holiday where we focus more on family and friends and less on the superficial things.

I don’t know exactly what it is, but I just love it!

I’ve really enjoyed how many of my Facebook friends have been doing the daily posts with what they are thankful for this year.  It’s been fun to read, but I just couldn’t get my butt in gear to do it.  (I’m also weird in that I don’t like starting things late, so when I missed the first day of the month, I didn’t want to play catch up.  See, I told you I was weird!)

So, rather than doing the daily posts, here’s my short list of things that I am thankful for…..I could go on and on all day really.

1.  I’m thankful for my relationship with God.
It may sound cheesy to some, but it’s the honest truth.  I’m thankful that Jesus made a way for me to know God and to ultimately spend eternity in heaven with Him.  There are some days when I really do long for heaven, so I’m thankful there is more to life than just the here and now (although other than the fact that my cute baby isn’t sleeping through the night, life isn’t too shabby).

2.  I’m thankful for my husband.
We’ve been married for 9 years and although they haven’t all been roses, I can’t imagine going through them with anyone else.  Kevin is patient with me as I continue to learn what this whole wife thing is all about (you’d think I’d have it all figured out by now, right?).  I love his goofy and silly side and he balances me out so well most days.  I also love seeing him grow into his Daddy role and develop as the leader of our family.  He truly is my best friend.

3.  I’m thankful for all my children.
I’ve always wanted to be a mother and although Andrew isn’t here with us, I’m thankful that he made me a mom.  I’m also thankful for Savannah’s sweet hugs and kisses and for Brady’s cuddles.  Though being a mom is the hardest job I’ve had so far, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

4.  I’m thankful for my family and friends.
I think I have the greatest family ever.  They have seen the good and the bad in me and love me anyway!  When I am at my whits end, a visit with my family does the trick every time.  There’s just something about being “home” that makes everything better!  Our friends have also been wonderful and been an extension of our family.

5.  I’m thankful for my church.
We have experienced so much love and encouragement from our local church.  They are like family to us and have been with us through loss and grief, new babies, house renovations, and so much more!  They inspire us to grow in our relationship with Christ and to really live out what we believe!

I’m thankful for my home.
I’m thankful for my husband’s job.
I’m thankful for our country.
I’m thankful for our troops.

I hope that you all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  If life has you in a hard place, don’t loose heart.  There is sunshine after the rain and no matter what, God is good even if it doesn’t feel like it.  I’m so thankful for the truth in this verse!

1 Chronicles 16:34
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪
.
Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
