I love the weekends!  I look forward to the change in our schedules and being together as a family.  We’ve recently implemented “family night” on Friday, so we definitely look forward to the weekends.

I’m also a big believer in Sundays being a day of rest (or as much as possible).  Whether it’s spending time at church, with family or friends, or relaxing, we try to keep our Sundays as low-key as we can.

With that said, I’ve come to realize that a little bit of effort on Sundays can actually make a huge difference in the success of the week!  I’d even venture to say as little as 60 minutes on Sunday can make your week less stressful and keep your budget intact.  (I’ve always believed that stress and finances are very related!).

There’s a lot to juggle in life, but a lot of it boils down to these six areas: food, clothes, cleaning, calendar, and money.  If you touch on these six areas on Sunday, then you will be ready to start the week right!

6 THINGS YOU CAN DO ON SUNDAY TO START THE WEEK RIGHT

1. Create a menu (10-20 minutes)

You know you have to eat, so why not plan out your meals ahead of time?  Create a simple menu for the week and you will be on your way to stress-free mealtimes!

If you already plan your meals and do this on a different day of the week, then you can take a look at your menu and make sure you don’t need to make any adjustments.

Bonus Tip:  pack snacks and/or lunches, prep any ingredients ahead of time

2. Write out a grocery list (10-20 mins)

Once you have your menu, jot down anything you are missing and will need to purchase for those meals.  Take a quick inventory of your pantry and fridge and freezer to make sure you don’t forget those staple items as well.

If you shop on a different day, then you can take a quick look to make sure you have the bare necessities (for us, that’s milk!).

3. Put away all clean laundry (10-20 mins)

I aim to do one load of laundry each day in order to keep it under control.  Staring at a mountain of laundry once a week would give me a panic attack, but I know my method doesn’t work for everyone!

No matter your specific laundry method, start your week with all the clean laundry put away.  Get your kids involved in this one, for sure!!

Bonus tip: select outfits for the week

4. Quick tidy up of the house (10-20 mins)

I struggle with a formal deep cleaning routine, but I am a fan of tidying!  Starting the week with a neat and tidy home is such a great feeling.  If your home is like mine, it probably takes a beating on the weekends when routines are more relaxed.

Take a few minutes on Sunday evening to put items that are out back in their homes.  Get your kids to help with this one too.  Take special care to clean your own bedroom.  You’ll feel excited to start your week when your room is put back together!

5. Review the calendar (10-20 mins)

Before you hit the sack on Sunday, take a minute to look over your schedule for the week.  Hubby and I use our shared Google calendar throughout the week (I try to add things immediately as I find out about them), but it’s always a good idea to double check before a new week begins.  Coordinate with your spouse so you can tackle the week together!

Bonus Tip:  do a weekly brain dump and/or make a to-do list for Monday

6. Review your budget/cash envelopes (10-20)

You may have your own routine with how you handle your finances, but I think it’s important to start the week with your money in order.  If you choose to review your budget on a different day of the week, it might just mean a simple spot check of your accounts.

In our case, I like to check our cash envelopes.  We also try to do our budget check-in meetings on Sunday evenings, but that’s totally a personal choice.

Most people dread Mondays, but that no longer has to be the case!  Spend 60 minutes of your weekend to plan and prepare for the upcoming week and your week will be off to a great start.  You’ve got this, Momma!
