Kevin suggested we watch a movie last night and he randomly pulled out Fireproof from our ever growing DVD collection. I was a little surprised he picked that one, as he tends to pick the historical or action flicks, but I was pleased nonetheless (and not just because Kirk Cameron is in it!). We popped it in and by the end, we were both tearing up. I love my sensitive hubby! 🙂 I balled during the movie when we saw it in the theatre, so tearing up was an improvement for me!
For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, it didn’t win any Academy awards, but the message is extremely powerful and a great reminder of what love really is. (Please rent it if you haven’t seen it!) During the movie, one of the characters uses a salt and pepper shaker to illustrate the marriage covenant and the impact that separation and divorce can have on the individuals involved. I remember thinking about this illustration right after Andrew was born, so it was cool to see it again on film last night.
Kevin and I have been married for 6 great years. We’ve had our ups and downs like every married couple, but I can honestly say that over the past couple of months, I feel like our marriage has been strengthened like I could have never imagined. Just like the salt and pepper shakers in the movie, we are cemented together now like never before.
We’ve experienced some of the greatest joys and sorrows together, some sorrows that no couple should ever have to face together. Our marriage is stronger for it though. While tragedy tears many couples apart, God has used Andrew’s life and death to strengthen our love for each other and unite us more than ever. Praise the Lord for his grace and mercy because I certainly can’t take any of the credit for it!
Towards the end of the movie, there is a video montage to a song by John Waller. It’s a beautiful song and I feel like the lyrics are the echo of my heart right now. Waiting has always been a challenge for me, but I’m learning to worship and serve HIM while I’m waiting.
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting
I will serve You
While I’m waiting
I will worship
While I’m waiting
I will not faint
I’ll be running the race
Even while I wait
