Back in the Saddle

January 5, 2010 by Sarah

Things are pretty much back to normal at the Eddins house. Kev went back to school yesterday and he’s already started writing his mid-term for his students. I have no idea why they give mid-terms after Christmas break, but oh well, I digress!

I am back to babysitting a couple days a week and being a stay-at-home wife. I told myself that I was going to just go out and get a retail job in January if I hadn’t found anything permanent, but I’m not sure about that yet. Right now, the picture below is my full-time job. Yes, it’s beadboard. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it! 🙂

My house is in total disarray as I paint the new beadboard (wainscotting- whatever it’s called), so I should be busy here at the house for at least a couple of weeks.
I think it looks pretty good so far. So far, I’ve just painted the beadboard in the kitchen area (behind the refrigerator and then the backsplash). I’ll start on the dining area today. I used oil-based, high gloss paint and I think it turned out well. I hate the clean up of oil paint, but it goes on so nicely that I can’t seem to use anything else on “woodwork” or trim.

Here’s a picture of the beadboard backsplash. I’ll probably come back and hang some decorative trivets or something to break up all the white. I love white kitchens, so I couldn’t resist.
Call me weird, but I actually sort of enjoy painting. I love the instant gratification that you get after even just one coat of fresh paint! My mom tells me what I should start my own small painting business since I’m so detailed and nit-picky about it. She’s already got my first customer lined up – my grandmother! Ha!

I called this morning and scheduled my bone marrow biopsy for next week, Jan. 11th. I have to be honest, I’m scared to death! I made the mistake of looking on Wikipedia and was not pleased when I saw how huge the needle was! I joke with people that it can’t be any worse than contractions, but it still scares me to death! I was very torn about whether to do “conscious sedation” which would require me going to the hospital or just doing the local anesthetic in his office. I opted for the local anesthetic since we’re trying to conceive. I didn’t want to take any chances. If you think about it, would you please pray for me on Jan. 11th?

Can you pray that I would not be anxious?

Can you also pray that they would not find any major issues from this test?

I sort of brushed off my low platelet level during my pregnancy with Andrew since the doctors seemed to think it was caused by pregnancy. But since my platelets are still low, I’m not sure what’s causing it. I don’t think anything major is going on since I’ve had no symptoms, but after we lost Andrew, I am no longer as naive about health issues.

Thanks so much for your prayers. I’ll make sure to let you guys know how things go next week.

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
