What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

January 6, 2010 by Sarah

I did it – I signed up for the Monument Avenue 10k here in Richmond!

I’ll be putting these shoes to some good use over the next couple of months. Perhaps, I can even buy a new pair in honor of this monumental occasion!

I’ve never been a big runner. I try to jog every now and then on the treadmill at the Y, but I’ve never been real disciplined with it. I would much rather hop on the elliptical machine (I have no clue how to spell that) than make myself look like I’m about to die on the treadmill. When I run, I get super red and it’s somewhat embarrassing 🙂

But, I’ve been frustrated with my lack of discipline as far as my diet and exercise regimen go, and I’ve always wanted to run in the Monument Ave 10k, so I took the plunge! My friend and I also signed up for the YMCA’s training team so that I can get myself ready for race day. I have an information session tonight and then training begins on Jan 16th.

If anyone has any tips on what to wear while running outside in the cold, please let me know! I already told Kevin that I need to go shopping for some cheap running gear. Should be fun!!

I know I’m a dork, but I’m actually really excited about this. I’ve needed something like this to get me motivated on hold myself accountable. For those who aren’t from Richmond, this is a huge local race and I’ve heard the course is beautiful. Monument Ave has always been one of my favorite areas of town, so it should be awesome! If you live in town and want to join us, let me know!!
