Weekday Weekend

July 23, 2013 by Sarah

It’s been an adjustment this summer to have Kev’s days off be right in the middle of the week.  It’s not a problem really, but it’s just completely different than the way things roll around here during the school year.  His schedule this summer has looked more like work Friday-Monday, with his days off Tuesday-Thursday.  I have enjoyed that his days off are consecutive, so we still feel like we have a weekend, it’s just a weekday weekend!
Last week, we were determined to get some much needed pressure washing done on our fence in the front and side yard.  We hope to replace it down the road with something totally new, fresh, and that could provide some security so the kids could potentially play in the front yard on occasion.  {We live on a main road in town.}
We know that replacing the fence altogether is not an option at this point, so we are trying to make it look as nice as possible in the meantime.  The first step in the process happened while Kev’s mom and dad were in town back in June.  They mainly worked on the side fence, removing the rotten boards that were not salvageable and replacing them with new pressure treated wood.  We were trying to keep it as cheap at possible so they only removed the worst of the boards.

Now that the new wood has had some time to dry out, we wanted to get the old wood cleaned up and ready for some fresh paint.  Kev and I took turns, but I hogged the pressure washer the majority of the time – ha!  I was pretty dirty by the end of it!

The kids swam in the baby pool during the morning, so they had some fun in the water while we worked on the project.  We finished up in the afternoon while both the kids were napping.

We were pretty pleased with how it turned out, especially considering what it looked like before.

I’m more and more convinced that owning a pressure washer is almost as important as owning a lawn mower!  I’m hoping that this week’s weekday weekend project will include replacing the rotten posts in the front and painting the side fence!  I’ll keep you posted!
