Home Improvements Continue

August 31, 2010 by Sarah

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve sat down to post.  We’re definitely still here and things are going well.  We had a great vacation a couple of weeks ago and little Savannah is doing great!  I’ll post more about those things later.

Kevin and I have been trying to get some home improvement projects marked off our list this summer.  After replacing the front door and getting a storm door installed, we’ve spent the past couple of months saving up for this recent one.  We love screened in porches, but we always knew we’d need the extra square footage at some point, so we decided not to invest any money into it since we’ve been in this house.  While I was tempted to purchase some new or used porch furniture, we held off and just left it alone. We did enjoy it some in the spring and fall, but our furniture consisted of beach chairs – lol!

We really felt like now was the time to make our move and finally get it enclosed and convert it to livable space.  We plan to use it as a home office for our computer and book cases.  Right now, our home office doubles as a guest room, so it’s very tight quarters in that particular room.  We’re excited to have some extra square footage and get it organized!

Here is a before picture.  If you look closely, you can see the screen is torn in the front.  Not so good for adding curb appeal, huh??!!

From what Kevin says, the contractor will begin the siding tomorrow and then move on to the insulation and drywall.  He hopes to be finished by the end of the week!  Kevin and my father will be taking over the project from there.  They plan to put in the wood floor and do all the trim work.  Then, after all that, the fun part really begins – decorating!  Actually, we’ll have to wait and see how the budget looks before we make any of those plans.

I don’t know about you, but I love doing work on my house.  It’s so therapeutic, and it’s one thing I wish we could have done right after we lost Andrew.  There is something so nice about being able to accomplish something concrete when your life seems out of control, but we just didn’t have the money then.  I’m so thankful we are able to get this done now though.  I’ll keep you posted on the progress!

Thanks for sharing your progress! It is fun to make changes around the house!! We will be painting our basement within the next month. Big changes coming w/ our family too…husband got a new job and for a time will be moving to a neighboring state and commuting home on the weekends…not ideal but needed to be done. Prayers for us would be great though! I hope to post more on my blog soon!!

Cant wait to hear how Savannah is doing! Take good care of yourself!!

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
