Frugal Fashion Friday

August 23, 2013 by Sarah

In case you haven’t noticed yet, the past couple of Fridays have been some sort of fashion-related post.  I’m not sure where it’s going yet, but I’m enjoying talking a bit about fashion and getting your feedback as I learn how to dress again in non-maternity clothes.  So, I’m going to go with it for now!  And for now, let’s call it…..

Frugal Fashion Friday!

I recently discovered The Pleated Poppy blog and I am loving her “What I Wore Wednesday” posts.  Every Wednesday, she posts about some or all of the outfits she wore for the week as an incentive to get dressed every day.  I think the idea is genius!  I love me so black yoga pants, but man I feel better when I’m dressed for the day.  If you need some extra motivation to get yourself up and at ’em, then feel free to link up on her blog {or leave me a comment and let me know the link to where I can read about your post}.

Here’s what I got for ya this week.

WARNING:  The photos are terrible, but I’m posting them anyway so you can see my attempt at not wearing yoga pants everyday….it’s a sacrifice, I know, but I’m willing to do it for YOU!

The top was something I pulled out of the archives.  And when I say archives, I mean it’s a top that I’ve had for about 4 or years but haven’t worn it since the babies.  It’s a little more exciting than a plain white t-shirt, with the small white flower embroidery to add a little excitement.  It reminds me of eyelet.

I put the shirt with my navy blue Bermuda shorts.  I’ve worn Bermuda shorts or capris for practically 3 of the past 4 summers {most of my maternity shorts were longer} and had been giving these a break this summer, but decided to pull them out since fall will be here before we know it.

My necklace department is seriously lacking and I wanted something bright to go with this top, so I went for the red necklace I got from Kohls a couple years ago and my new red earrings that I purchased in Charleston a couple weeks ago.

I was about to put on my typical shoe for summer – flip flops – when I remembered my cute red flats!  This picture doesn’t do them justice, but it lets you know how much my little guy loves pulling up!  My cost estimates are below.
****************************************************
Top:  Target – Not sure since I’ve had this a while, but probably around $15 or less since I bought it on the clearance rack
Shorts: Ann Taylor Outlet – Not sure since I bought these 4 years ago, but probably around $20 on sale at the outlet store
Earrings: Handpicked – $5.24
Necklace: Kohls – approx. $10 (I’m pretty sure I spent less b/c I think I used a gift card)
Red Flats: Target – approx. $16.99 but received as Christmas gift
****************************************************
This outfit didn’t excite me too much, but I thought the jewelry helped a little bit.
I spent a little time on Pinterest trying to figure out the best way to wear Bermuda shorts, but didn’t find much inspiration that went along with anything I could re-create.  If any of you have any tips on how to wear longer shorts well, let me know in a comment.  As I mentioned last week. I’m liking the shorter shorts with long sleeve top look, but I’m still not sure about how what would really go best with longer shorts.

Have a great weekend!
