Savannah at 6 Months

June 11, 2011 by Sarah

Savannah turned 6 months old yesterday!  It’s hard to believe this milestone is upon us!  Here’s what you are up to at 6 months!
*You are eating 4 times a day, every 4 hours during the day. You are still nursing well, but very quick.  Sometimes I wonder if you are getting enough to drink, but you seem to be doing fine!
*You are enjoying your solids and have become quite the little birdie, opening your mouth real wide when I feed you!  You are eating rice cereal and you have tried all the veggies that Mommy can find at the store – carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, and peas.  Your special dessert yesterday evening was your first taste of fruit, but you didn’t seem too interested.  Mommy plans to start making your food soon, just as soon as I can gather all the supplies and find the time!  Babyfood is expensive!!
*You are enjoying sitting in your highchair!  Mommy used to feed you in your Bumbo seat, but you enjoy sitting up like a big girl in your wooden highchair.  Mommy plans to refurbish it and add safety straps, but we have rigged it up so it works well in the meantime!

*You continue to sleep well at night!  You are in bed by 7:30-7:45pm and usually wake up around 7:30am.  On the occasion that Mommy and Daddy go to a friends house, we just bring your Pack n Play along and you do well sleeping in it until we get home.  We hope you continue to be a flexible baby!
*You are taking 3 naps – 2 long ones and 1 catnap.  You had Mommy stumped for a few days this past month when you suddenly stopped taking good naps.  Mommy finally realized that you needed to be awake longer before your naps.  That, along with moving you to a 4 hour schedule, seemed to do the trick!
*You are still wearing size 2 diapers, but only because we still have some to use up.  You are wearing size 3 Pampers at night and we’ll break out the size 3 generics once we use up all of the 2’s.
*You weighed 16 lbs. when I weighed you at home the other day.  I’m sure it isn’t exact, so we’ll have to wait until your next appointment at the beginning of July to find out how much you have grown!
*You are wearing some 3-6 month clothes one final time, but Mommy is moving you up to 6-9 months clothing as we speak.  Since it has been so hot, Mommy tries to keep you in rompers/creepers so you can stay cool!
*You are talking quite a bit when you are playing on the floor and when we put you in your crib to sleep.  Mommy and Daddy think you like to talk most when you are by yourself, perhaps because you want to entertain yourself when it’s quiet.  When you are around lots of people, you often become quiet and “take everything in” although you can be social too.  You will smile at people when they smile at you.
*You still love your thumb, although you will put just about anything in your mouth these days!  You have also recently discovered your feet and Mommy finds your trying to put them in your mouth as well!  You’re not quite there yet, but probably will be soon!
*You like to grab things.  You like to grab my hair or my earrings when I am holding you, and you will grab a toy that I hold in front of you.  I even watched you pass a toy from one hand to the other!
*You can sit up on your own when you have your hands on the floor in front of you (tripod sitting).  Mommy catches you trying to sit up on your own when I buckle you into your car seat.  You have become more squirmy!

*You are good at turning over from your back to your tummy.  You have actually begun to enjoy sleeping on your tummy now.  Mommy tries to flip you over, but sometimes gives up because it becomes a game to you!  You don’t turn over much from your tummy to your back, which is surprising because you used to do this very early on when you were just a month old.  You don’t seem interested in doing that anymore.

*You enjoy your exercauser a lot now!  You used to just sit in it, but now Mommy catches you playing with the toys in it and jumping up a storm!

*You truly are a joy, Savannah!  We get told by so many people what a great and happy baby that you are.  Although we don’t take any of the credit, we do realize how blessed we are!  It’s hard to believe that you have been with us for 6 whole months!  The time is going by so quickly!  It still seems so surreal that God chose us to be your parents!  We are so thankful!
