Halloween 2013

November 1, 2013 by Sarah

Happy Halloween!  I know this can be a controversial holiday for some people, but I do hope it was an enjoyable evening for everyone who participated.  {Check out this blog post by a friend of mine.  She makes some great points}.

We don’t make a big deal about Halloween in our house, but we really enjoy the cute costumes and have decided to participate in the “treating” part.  And in case you aren’t convinced about just how little we make of the day, I still have my spring wreath on my door and we never made it to buy a pumpkin.  I know, shame on me!  Regardless of whether you celebrate, that is just pathetic.  🙂  The only reason I have a mum on our front step is because I brought one home from my cousin’s wedding a couple weeks ago.

But, tonight was a wonderful evening for a little bit of dress up and trick-or-treating.  The weather could not have been better.

We started our evening by having some dinner with my grandmother.  I know she really wanted to see the kids in their costumes and she lured us in with free food {not that she had to do too much convincing anyway}.

After our dinner, we headed back to our “neighborhood” so we could do some trick-or-treating with our new neighbors {we had just moved a couple weeks before Halloween last year}.  I say it’s our neighborhood even though we face a main road, but the side street leads back to a really nice neighborhood setting.  Once Savannah got some candy from my grandmother’s house, she was excited to get more.

I strolled with Brady while Savannah and Daddy made the trek up to each door.  It was so precious to watch Savannah say her “trick-or-treat” and “thank you” at each house.  I heard a couple of people guess that she was a bear, but most everyone realized she was our cute little monkey.  I’m sure Brady would have gotten some attention too, had they seen him decked out in his Eeyore costume.

Last year, she only made it to about 5 houses in my grandmother’s neighborhood.  This year, she covered a long stretch of the street adjacent to our house.  She We racked up!

We were only out for about an hour in total, but we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.  It was such a communal atmosphere and I loved how most people were sitting outside on their front porches waiting for the kids.  I’m sure they did it for their own convenience, but it was so nice to see people out and about since winter is upon us and it’s getting darker earlier and earlier.  We had a great night and we made some sweet memories.

And based on all the family costumes that I’m already seeing pop up on Facebook, I apparently missed the memo.  I’m loving all the cute ideas and perhaps you’ll see an Eddins Family Costume next year.  You’ll have to wait and see.  🙂
