Our Trek to Mississippi

December 30, 2013 by Sarah

This year was our year to spend Christmas with my family {we try our best to alternate if we can}.  We had a great time with them, but since Kev has two weeks off we decided to travel to see Kev’s family after Christmas.

On Friday morning at the wee hour of 2:52am, we hopped in the car and got on our way to Mississippi.  In the past, we have broken the trip up into two days, but we decided to try making the trip in one day this time.  We figured the only way our littles would make it travelling for 14 hours in one day would be if some of the driving was done during sleeping hours.

It worked out really well actually.  Once the kids were in the car, they were awake for about an hour and then eventually fell back to sleep until the morning.  We stopped for breakfast, a change of clothes, some gas for the car and then we were back on our way.

We decided to try and save some money by packing our lunch instead of eating out again.  We still stopped for some playtime, potty breaks, and fill ups but it worked out really well.  Overall we made great time travelling and the kids did really well, but we were still so glad to be out of the car.  I’m not afraid to admit that Kev and I may have made the best purchase of our lives the evening before the trip when we bought a portable DVD player for the car.  It helped so much!

Since we arrived here, we have had some wonderful, relaxing times with family.  We’ve already eaten out a couple of times and been to the mall with the kids.  We’ll see what the rest of our visit brings, but we are enjoying ourselves so far.

I’ll post more about our time later, but I wanted to leave you with this awesome song about my husband’s birthplace.  Watch out though, it’s pretty catchy!  🙂
