Just What I Needed

November 19, 2013 by Sarah

We had a great weekend.  It was pretty busy, but just what I needed.  I hope you won’t mind a little recap!

I miss you toni!!

Our fun weekend started on Friday morning with a play date with some friends.  It was nice to have some adult conversation while the kids played.  After lunch, we walked around the mall and did some window shopping.

Our small group met on Friday night to wrap up David Platt’s Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream.  We have been reading it off and on since the spring {with some breaks for summer} and we decided it was time to wrap it up.  We opted to have each couple do “chapter reviews.”  Think book review but with chapters instead.  The content of the book is both challenging and thought-provoking so I plan to re-read it again straight through because I am sure I missed some things.

hahahahah this sums it up perfectly!!! Ask tania she knows lol

My Saturday afternoon was spent cleaning the education building at the church {Kev and the kids joined me after lunch} and then doing some shopping for Christmas.  I didn’t end up buying a whole lot, but spent some good time looking to get ideas for people.  I haven’t been out to shop for that long by myself in quite a whole, so it was nice.

We had dinner with a dear family who grieved with us in those early months after loosing Andrew.  We don’t see them as much since our grief group dissolved, but we love them so much.  They “get” our non-traditional family and it was nice to be able to talk openly about our babies in heaven without wondering if the other would think we were weird.  We always mention how we hate the circumstances under which we met, but that we are so thankful for them.  Their children are adorable and treated our kids so kindly.

After the kids were in bed, I decided to stop by another friend’s house who was celebrating a birthday.  We laughed quite a bit and stayed up too late, but it was worth it to be able to give a birthday hug.

Our Sunday morning was so sweet.  We watched some children be dedicated to the Lord and some folks be baptized.  It was a sweet time of celebration with our church family.

I ended the weekend on a high note with a really restful nap yesterday afternoon.  No joke, it was JUST what I needed. We had a fantastic weekend filled with many of our friends.  It was filled with joy, laughter, and rest.  Does it get any better than that?

And the fact that I didn’t take pictures should speak volumes.  I was enjoying the moments so much that the camera was the last thing on my mind. 🙂

How was your weekend?  Did you enjoy any great naps too?

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!

Can they be helpful? Absolutely!

This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.

Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
