Frugal Fashion Friday – Plaid Shirt & Puffer Vest

December 20, 2013 by Sarah

My grandmother was so nice to give me my Christmas money early this year.  She told me she wanted me to buy a new coat with it, which I did about a month ago and I’ve been getting a ton of use out of it already.  But when she gave me the actual check so I could pay the bill, I was a little surprised to see that the amount was a little higher than usual.  Her response when I questioned her about it was, “Well, I had a better year this year than I expected.”  So, so sweet… my grandmother is.
Since I had a little extra money to spend on myself this Christmas and saw that Old Navy was having a sweater sale the other day, I had to swing by and see what all the buzz was about.  I walked out without the $10 sweater, but did end up with a red plaid shirt and cream puffer vest {and a scarf which I am not showcasing today}!
I was excited because those items had been placed on my “closet staples” list.  It was a mental list until the other day when I decided to write the stuff down for fear I’d totally forget my shopping strategy…stick to the basics!  If I don’t jot them down, I may loose all sense of practicality when I go out shopping.  I need focus, can’t you tell?
The red plaid shirt {okay, so is this plaid or check?} immediately caught my eye when I walked into Old Navy the other night.  I knew I had to try it on and my friend told me that it was so “me.”  I guess I’m predictable.
Is that good?
Or bad?
Don’t answer that!
When I strolled past the puffer vests and saw they were on sale for $20, I thought I better take one back as well.  I was temped to go for a bright color like pink, but my friend talked me through some more practical options since I am working on the “closet staples,” remember?
I immediately loved the look and agreed with my friend.  It is so me…super comfy but with a hint of cute.  Some may say I look like a lumberjack, but I’m totally okay with that!  🙂  To each his own.

In my opinion, the shoes MAKE the outfit.  {Don’t judge, we had just gotten back from our tacky light tour and I was not about to put on real shoes again}.  These are seriously the best slippers ever.
Here’s the breakdown on the outfit:
{including some of the prices I recall paying}
**********************************
Shirt: Old Navy {$19.84 after coupon}
Vest:  Old Navy {$14.73 after sale and coupon}
Tank:  Old Navy
Jeans:  Gap
Slippers:  LL Bean
Earrings:  Target – $3.58 {clearance price in store}
**********************************

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful?  Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."
