Hey friends! I’m starting something new this week that I hope will be fun and give you a little peek into our frugal life. I’m calling it Ways We Save Saturday – where I share all the small and simple ways we save money throughout the week. Let’s jump right into this week.

1. I signed up to consign at a local consignment sale next month.
This one technically is about making money rather than saving money, especially since I had to pay a $10 fee in order to register as a consignor, but I wanted to include it anyway. The money I make at these sales often pays for the clothes I end up buying to outfit my kids each season, so I’d say it ends up saving me money in the long run!

2. I saved over $50 on clothes by using my store credit card rewards.
I’m a big believer in cash (we have cash envelopes for crying out loud!), so I am not a big proponent of using credit cards. But, we have not followed Dave Ramsey’s advice in this area (We still love you, Dave!) and we do have a couple of credit cards. We use my Old Navy credit card on monthly bills where a credit card is required, so I accumulate rewards certificates that I can redeem at any of the Gap stores.

My total should have been around $60, but it ended up being about $7. I used my $45 reward certificate and I get free shipping as a card holder, so I saved q good chunk on some new exercise clothes and pajama pants!
3. I balanced the checkbook and found an error in our favor!
I’m old school when it comes to our checkbook. I balance it every month and I always aim to balance it to the penny. This month, I found a $12 error and it was in our favor. It pays to balance your checkbook!
4. Kev used his military discount at Lowes.
I’m trying to finish up the details of Savannah’s bedroom makeover and this week’s purchase was a simple white shade for her window. The wood blinds keep breaking in the kid’s bedrooms (lots of tugs from my kids) and I decided to try a shade this time. It was a cheap item anyway, but Kev saved us 10% by using his military ID. Every little bit helps!
5. The kids checked out books at the library.
My kids are somewhat obsessed with the library these days. They ask to go quite often now, when I used to always be the one to initiate a trip. I’m loving that they are enthused about reading (my daughter is on a Junie B. Jones kick!) and I love that we can check out lots of books, for free! The children’s section has some fun toys for the toddlers and it’s just a fun outing with the kids.
There you have it!
