Hey friends! It’s Saturday so that means it’s another week of Ways We Save Saturday – where I share all the small and simple ways we save money throughout the week. With Hubby preparing to leave for military duty and the Easter holiday, I skipped the past two weeks so this post includes the past couple of weeks. Here goes!

1. Cut my son’s hair at home
I’ve shared about cutting the boys’ hair before, but we recently invested in these Wahl clippers. I’ve done only scissor cuts before, so I’m still getting used to the clippers. Aside from the initial investment (Hubby got our pair marked down to $42 at Sally Beauty Supply a few months ago), we save a lot of money by cutting their hair at home and I’m able to try learning a new skill. I’m certainly no professional, but I’m getting better with each cut! 🙂
2. Upcycled old frames from Goodwill
I decided to replace two 8×10 frames in my daughter’s room with some larger frames. I just couldn’t make myself love the smaller ones and knew in my heart of hearts that I needed something larger and brighter on the wall. I hopped over to Goodwill and snagged two 11×14 frames for $5 a piece.
After some spray paint, new mats, and cute printables, no one would ever know I didn’t purchase them brand new! (More details on that later!)
3. Used Retailmenot app to find store coupons
I rarely have the time to purchase a newspaper and clip coupons these days, but I love using the Retailmenot app on my phone for retail stores. AC Moore and Hobby Lobby usually have store coupons floating around, so I used them when purchasing some supplies for my frame up cycle project. I saved 40% at both stores – my mats were $3.50 and my spray paint was about the same. Score!
4. Ordered new swimsuits when they were on sale
I try to keep my email inbox under control by not signing up for emails at every single retail store that I enter. With that said, I do like to stay in the loop at the stores I most frequently shop, especially clothing stores. When I saw that Old Navy was running a 50% off sale on swimsuits, I jumped on it since both of my older kids needed them.
As always, I made the purchase through my ebates account, so I saved even more. Y’all have GOT to check out ebates if you haven’t already. It’s a no-brainer for online purchases!
5. Bought Easter shoes at Payless
Kids shoes are hard to find second-hand, especially white dress shoes. When I looked online at Payless, I saw they had a simple, classic pair that was under $15. When I stopped in the store with my daughter to have her try them on, they were on sale for $9.99. I don’t like to spend a lot of money on dress shoes, so Payless Shoe Source has been a great option for us over the years!
6. Kept Easter baskets simple
I wrote a post about this last year and I continued with my minimalist Easter basket tradition. I included practical items they needed anyway like new pajamas and art supplies, bought each one a book (I got another copy of The Jesus Storybook Bible and The Adventure Bible Storybook brand new at Goodwill a few weeks ago for $3 each!), and then included a small toy along with some candy.
7. Used a coupon and Cartwheel app at Target
I haven’t clipped a coupon in forever, but I decided to check out Target’s printable coupons since I knew I was going to be purchasing some makeup items. I found a manufacturer’s coupon through their website that I was able to use on some mascara. And I always scan my items using the Cartwheel app to take advantage of any other deals. I saved a tiny bit on Target brand magic erasers. Anything helps!
8. Checked for ibotta rebates
I always check for ibotta rebates after any shopping trip. I don’t find tons because I shop mostly at Aldi, but I was excited to find a $3 ibotta rebate on CoverGirl cosmetics. I was able to use it since I bought some concealer. I would have bought it anyway since it’s my favorite “drug store” concealer, but the savings was an added bonus!
Well, there you have it! I hope you have a great weekend!
