Memorial Day Weekend

May 29, 2013 by Sarah

I hope that you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!  I need to start out by mentioning how thankful I am for the men and women who literally gave up their lives so that folks like you and me could enjoy the freedoms we have here in America.  You are not forgotten and we are forever grateful!  And for those who have served and are actively serving, we appreciate your sacrifice in serving as well!  True heroes!

What a whirlwind of a weekend!  It was jam-packed, but oh so much fun!  Unfortunately, I didn’t get to capture much of it on film.  Just a few pictures after church on Sunday.

We had small group on Friday night, as we do on most Fridays.  We’ve been reading David Platt’s book Radical (we took a short break to go through his Follow Me series as a church, but resumed it last week).  I’ve really enjoyed the book and it is very thought-provoking.  Lots to think about and process.  Maybe I’ll do a book review blog post at some point!

I spent the late afternoon on Saturday up at church for a few hours.  There was a wedding at our church and I helped with the clean up.  I actually enjoyed it and got some peeks at the bride and groom.  There’s something so sweet about seeing a bride and groom on their wedding day!  Priceless moments!
Kev and I taught the Sunday School lesson for the high school students at church on Sunday morning.  It was a smaller group since the upperclassman were away on a special beach weekend, but Kev and I both really enjoyed preparing for the lesson.  It was titled “Conflict as Opportunity” and we talked about the passage in 1 Samuel 24:1-22 where David spares Saul’s life.  David handled that conflict far better than I probably would have!  Hopefully, the students got something out of it as well.

Later that evening, we went out to dinner with some of my family to celebrate my aunt’s birthday.  I always enjoy spending time with my family, and eating out is always a nice treat too!  After our family dinner, we went over to play cards with some friends.  They had some cold Diet Cokes and some homemade bread from their bread machine….does it get much better?  We got the kids to sleep and had some fun playing our favorite card game.  We were a round shy of finishing all the hands, but we just couldn’t do it!  We stayed out way too late as it was!

We spent most of the day on Monday recovering from our late night card game.  Kev and I were both dragging pretty slowly, but we perked up later in the day!  We grilled out with some friends again and were back home at a decent time so we could wind down some and get ready for the rest of the week.

I don’t know about you guys, but May has been crazy busy!  Yeah for summertime!
