Too Many Miles

June 25, 2013 by Sarah

Kev’s family started the trek back home to Mississippi on Saturday.  We were all a little bummed and deflated to see them drive off.  Savannah even shed some tears when she realized that she couldn’t get in the car with them.  When you live so far away from each other, the goodbyes are even harder because we never know exactly when we will see each other again.  It’s just too far to make surprise weekend trips on the spur of the moment.  I hate that about being so far from them!

But, I will say that absence really does make the heart grow fonder in our case.  I think we all really treasure the time that we do have together and look forward to it so much.  And while we oftentimes don’t really do much other than eat out a couple of times, stay up too late talking, and laugh a ton, our time together is so sweet.

We really didn’t do anything out of the ordinary while they were here.  Savannah loved waking up and knowing her Maw Maw and Paw Paw were downstairs and Brady loved getting held more than I usually can.  We just lived life together this past week, which was so nice.

Johnny and Kevin spent most of the week outside working on their mini projects.  They weren’t able to complete them all, but made some good progress.  They were able to take down the cedar tree in the front yard (click HERE to read about that), repaired some of our wood fence, and started building a gate on the chain length fence.  There may have dabbled a little bit with an indoor light fixture too.  They make a great team and I know it’s such a blessing for Kevin to have that extra set of hands!

Loretta and I spent most of the week around the house taking care of the kids.  She spent a lot of time playing with Savannah outside or caring for them while I took my showers or needed to run errands, etc.  It was so nice to have an extra set of hands with the children.  She also sent me off to get my haircut at the end of the week, which was a nice treat.  It felt like time stood still while they washed my hair – so relaxing!  We also enjoyed a couple of meals out and we got some Sweet Frog on Friday night.

We are hoping to be able to visit sometime in the fall or winter.  Until then, we are so thankful for Skype!  We miss you already, Maw Maw and Paw Paw!  Come again soon!
