Frugal Fashion Friday – Casual Valentine’s Outfit Ideas

February 7, 2014 by Sarah

After my post on Wednesday, I was afraid y’all would think I was some bitter or scorned woman, so I want to reassure you that I, indeed, am not.
In fact, I’ve even been thinking about ways we can have some fun celebrating the holiday next week and scoured the internet Pinterest for some cute Valentine’s outfit ideas.  Kev and I typically have small group on Friday night, but our church’s youth group is offering a babysitting night as a fundraiser, so we might be heading out on Valentine’s Day after all!  And whether or not you have a “valentine” in your life, it’s still fun to dress in something special.
If you know me or have read here long, you know that I am all about casual and comfort.  So, rest assured that the ideas I am sharing today are only what I would consider wearing in real life, which happens to be pretty casual these days.  I think it’s fun to dress up sometimes, but if you are looking for really fancy, I’m not going to be able to help you with that today.
Pin #1

I am loving this super fun and sporty outfit for V-Day.  Who says you need to dress all stiff on Valentine’s?  Sport it during the day with the cute red Converse and/or dress it up with the red pumps later in the evening.  Wearing the red lipstick, nail polish, purse, watch, ring, sunglasses, and earrings might be a little too “matchy matchy” for me, but you could totally get away with it on V-Day if that’s your thing or just pick 1 or 2 red accessories and rock it!

                                                                            Pin #2
Can I just say that I am in love with this red ruffle top?  I have a top that I thought might do this outfit a little justice, but it most certainly does not {I’ll show you what I mean in a minute}.  I know ruffles are usually either loved or hated, but this one just drew me in immediately.  Again, dress this up with cute pumps or down a tad with some ballet flats.  Add a simple pair of earrings and this outfit would be perfect, in my opinion!
Pin #3
While I adore the outfit in pin #2, one concern of mine was the lack of sleeves.  It’s still cold here in February and I’m not about to be cold just for fashion’s sake.  A coat will do for outside, but I can see myself shivering  all night in that cute ruffle top even once I stepped inside.  Pin #3 addresses that with the white blazer.  I love how crisp it looks against the red tank/top underneath.  Add some simple jewelry, and you’d be ready to go!

Pin #4
I thought I was 100% in love with the red ruffle top, until I saw this geo-print top.  Oh my word!  I love the loose fit and the pattern/colors are so unique and eye-catching.  It would go perfect with a cute pair of jeans, but still looks “put together.”  So simple, it’s genius.
So here’s where it gets a little comical.  I took a stab at my own version of 2 of these outfits {with a 3rd option using pink} and I never feel as “cool” wearing them as the pictures look on Pinterest.  I guess that’s real life for ya!
