To Scarf, or Not to Scarf: That is the Question

August 9, 2013 by Sarah

I went to Target the other day to pick up a few items and decided to peruse the swimsuit section one final time.  I was hoping that they’d made some markdowns on the swimsuit I had recently purchased and I made sure to bring the coupon for woman’s apparel that I had just recently printed just in case I stumbled upon something else that I absolutely needed before we head to the beach! 🙂

My next stop was inevitable, as it’s usually the first place I go when I enter any Target store.

If you guessed the accessories section, you would be correct!

You probably wouldn’t guess it by observing what I wear, but in recent years I’ve become much more interested in accessories and jewelry.  I don’t wear many rings or bracelets, but I am loving earrings {the larger and more dangly, the better it seems lately} and scarves these days.  I’m getting braver with necklaces too.  Overall, I’m slowly trying to add to my very limited collection of jewelry and accessories.

All summer I have had my eyes on the spring scarves, but just could not bring myself to pay $15 plus for them at Target, no matter how cheap that may seem in the scheme of accessories.  Remember people, we live on a teacher’s salary here!  🙂

So, my eyes almost bugged out of my head when I saw a cute spring scarf marked down to $4.48.  Man, I love the clearance rack.

Here’s my attempt at putting this scarf to some use, but this is where I need your help.  Since I’m still getting used to wearing scarves, I have some questions.

#1.  What sort of top would/would not go well?
I didn’t have too much time to play around with it today, so I just wore it with a white t-shirt.  Since the scarf is striped, is it better to go plain on the top or could you mix up patterns?

#2.  What type of accessories would work with this scarf?
I found a pair of turquoise earrings which I thought worked, but is it best to let the scarf stand alone? I almost put on a chunky turquoise bracelet, but wasn’t sure whether it would be too much so I held off?

#3. Does hairstyle matter when wearing scarves?
I had my hair down, but would hair pulled back have been better?  Or does it make a difference?

#4.  Do people wear scarves in the summer?
I honestly haven’t paid attention to it when I’m out and about, but would you say this scarf would only work on the spring or late summer when the weather is cooling off?  Hot weather aside, is it silly to even consider wearing this in the middle of summer?

I just need ideas people, because I think the scarf is super cute and I don’t want it to just hang in my closet because I’m too clueless to know how to wear it well!  I also don’t want to over think it, but I loved hearing from you on my last fashion post and your ideas were fantastic {I’m still on the hunt for a cute neon pink necklace to go with those shorts}.

Pretty please, will you leave me a comment and let me know any thoughts you have on scarves in general or how I could wear this particular one?  Be completely honest, no holding back.

Just remember that if you leave the comment on my Facebook page, others who access posts outside of my personal page won’t see your great ideas.  Leaving a comment directly on this post allows anyone and everyone to see your tips of the trade, which I think is wonderful.

No pressure though, I just love your input any way that I can get it.  Please share your scarf knowledge…..and GO! 🙂

I LOVE that scarf and I LOVE that price! So cute! I am no expert! However, I do love a good scarf and I love wearing them! They are the perfect accessory. I prefer to wear them with my hair up. I have long hair that get all in the way and with something around my neck it just makes it to be too much. The only exception I make is in the case of a thinner scarf (not my fav) tied in a knot. By all means wear other pieces of jewelry! I personally wouldn't for for both the earring and the bracelet but one or the other would be a good compliment! Cute, cute, cute!

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."
