Hey friends! It’s Saturday so that means it’s another week of Ways We Save Saturday – where I share all the small and simple ways we save money throughout the week. Here goes!

1. Bought Behr Marquee paint
One of the tasks on my agenda this week was painting my daughter’s closets. I painted her room over a year ago, but had left the closets alone and I just couldn’t take it anymore. The room is really coming together and I didn’t want to leave any shortcuts that I would regret later. I didn’t have enough paint left to complete the job, so I bought another gallon of Behr Marquee paint (color is Gray Shimmer) at Home Depot.
The paint goes on so smoothly, but I also love how much cheaper it is than other brands. I used to be a paint snob and assumed Home Depot’s paint would never live up to the reputation of brands like Sherwin Williams. I still use and love Sherwin Williams, but I’m sold on Behr Marquee paint and use it for lots of our projects. Based on pricing in our area, I saved about $15 by purchasing Behr Marquee paint. I’ll take it!
2. Trip to The Dollar Tree for household items
On Tuesday, I had a fun little trip to The Dollar Tree. Their Valentine’s Day section was an explosion of red, but I actually didn’t purchase anything for Valentine’s Day just yet. Check it out though if you want some fun and festive items but have a limited budget!
I purchased some ordinary household items like Dawn, deodorant, and light bulbs, but bought some fun items that you may not even realize they sell at The Dollar Tree. I picked up birthday cards for 50 cents each, wall and car chargers for my cell phone, and a cell phone holder that clips into my car air vent. These items would have been more expensive at other stores, so I was excited about my savings!
3. Bought Roma instead of cherry tomatoes
This savings was very minor (70 cents!), but I wanted to share it so you get a glimpse into how I think when I shop for groceries (no matter the store, although I LOVE Aldi!).
We were having a Mexican themed meal and I needed tomatoes. I often prefer cherry tomatoes, but decided to get the Roma tomatoes since they were cheaper. Not a large savings, but every little bit helps and adds up over time!
4. Purchased a mirror from Wal-Mart
I’ve decided that one closet in my daughter’s room is going to be her “dressing area.” We hang up her dresses and there is a perfect little space for a taller mirror. I envisioned one that could lean up against the wall and hoped to find something that was functional but might also be a statement piece. The ones I’ve seen are often $100+ (if not much more!)and that was most definitely not in the budget.
I checked out Target, Home Goods and couldn’t find anything so I swung by Wal-Mart. This cute aqua door mirror was right in the main aisle and I stopped immediately. I loved the $6 price, but it looked a little flimsy and I wasn’t sure how it would work leaning up against the wall. When I brought it home, my hesitations were confirmed, but I’m going to keep it. It’s a perfectly good mirror for a 7 year old and my daughter liked it anyway!
I’ve been gathering ideas from Pinterest and I may decide to spruce it up later if I want! Until then, it’ll probably be mounted on the wall and do the job just fine.
5. Eating leftovers before we travel instead of eating on the road
We try our best to eat up any leftovers that we have from meals I cook during the week. I don’t love cooking unnecessarily, but it also saves money (win-win!) We traveled on Friday and decided to eat up some of our leftovers before we got on the road rather than stopping somewhere to eat out.
There you have it!
