Ways We Save Saturday

February 3, 2018 by Sarah

Hey friends!  It’s Saturday so that means it’s another week of Ways We Save Saturday – where I share all the small and simple ways we save money throughout the week.  Here goes!

It's time for Ways We Save Saturday - where I share all the small and simple ways we save money throughout the week.

1.  I met some friends for lunch and play time with the kids at McDonald’s

Our oldest had a day off from school on Monday, so I thought it would be fun to get together with friends and do something fun.  A park or playground day would have been ideal, but it was raining and bitter cold so an indoor option became mandatory.  I love me some Chick-fil-A, but we had a couple more days until payday and our eating out budget was pretty tiny.  So, when one of my friends mentioned McDonald’s as an option, I jumped on it!

We had a super cheap lunch and our kids played in the play place (it was a large one!) for about 3 hours while us moms chatted.  It was a fun time to catch up and I didn’t spend more than $5.

2.  We ate from our freezer

Hubby gets paid at the end of each month, so I wanted to avoid grocery shopping until his payday.  Thankfully, I had a few things in the freezer, along with some produce from last week, that I could use to make some super simple meals until we had a fresh grocery budget for the month.

3.  I shopped for groceries at Aldi

My love for Aldi isn’t anything new, but I had to include it anyway.  I shop at Walmart and Kroger on occasion, but Aldi has become my standard these days.  Once hubby was paid and we had a fresh grocery budget, I stocked up on all sorts of items.  I walked out with a cart load of groceries and only spent $100.

4.  I bought a pick of the week to save on produce

One of the best ways to save on produce is to buy what is on sale.  Aldi has “picks of the week” and I always aim to buy those so I can keep produce costs down.  This week was blueberries for $1.49 per pint, which made me happy because I love fresh blueberries!  I didn’t use them to make my blueberry cobbler, but perhaps I should have!

5.  We ate before 6pm at Texas Roadhouse

We had a gift card to Texas Roadhouse and decided to spend it this week.  We arrived before 5pm and ordered one of the entrees listed on their early dine menu, so we saved a couple of dollars.  Not a big savings, but it was something!

There you have it!

What are some of the ways you saved money this week?
