Davis at 3 Years

October 24, 2017 by Sarah

This guy will always be my baby, but man, I can hardly believe how he’s grown!  You are at such a fun age!

Here is what you are up to these days.

* You are a picky eater!  I’m not concerned because you are growing well.  And if you are anything like your siblings, you’ll come around eventually.  I serve you balanced meals and you eat what you eat, which is usually the carbs and some fruits.  Sometimes you’ll eat carrots, but that’s about all I can recall when it comes to veggies.  You don’t typically eat meat unless it’s in the form of a chicken nugget.  You don’t seem to mind missing dessert when you don’t eat your meal, but that will probably change.

* You are a great sleeper, from 7pm until 7 or 7:30am.   You are usually ready to go to bed and will lay quietly until you fall asleep.  You are still sharing a room with your brother and are doing great.

* Your naps are becoming less consistent.  I still put you down for “rest time” each day from around 12:30-2pm, but you usually only sleep once or twice a week.  If you don’t nap and seem overly tired or grouchy, then I’ll usually put you down for the night around 6:30pm.  It just depends.

* You are potty trained and are doing so well!  You were a challenge to potty train, taking up to a full week to decide you were ready to use the potty rather than go in your underwear all.day.long.  I was about ready to give up on you and then you turned the corner!  Even though getting started was hard, you are doing great and hardly ever have accidents.  I think you’ve only had one accident at night, which was not the case when I trained your siblings.  (I hope I’m not jinxing myself!).

* You are wearing size 3T clothing and size 11 shoes.  We love all the hand-me-downs from your brother and cousin

* You are 40 inches tall and weigh 36 pounds.  There are no issues with your growth -you are usually in the 90th percentile!

* You love to brush your teeth although it ends up more like chewing.  You won’t let me forget it, even if we are in a rush at bedtime!  You have your first cleaning in the spring.

* Your speech is progressing.  Sometimes you speak gibberish, but then there are other times that you speak very clearly, stringing sentences together.

* You love preschool so far!  You are sad (and frustrated) when you don’t get to go every day.  I’m so glad you are adjusting well and I think the structure with other kids and adults is good for you!  At the same time, you can play by yourself at home too, while the others are at school.  It’s nice that you can find ways to entertain yourself and don’t always rely on me to keep you entertained.

* You are fearless!  You are all over the place and don’t let your age keep you from much, even if you can’t do certain things, you at least want to try!

* You love TV and movies!  Curious George and The Berenstain Bears are some of your favorites and I have to keep an eye on you or I can find you sitting in the living room watching TV for hours if I’m not careful!  Ha!

* You are still sucking your thumb.  I’m not overly concerned about it, but I did notice that you do it whenever you have your blanket with you.  I’ve started to take your blanket away once you are up in the morning, hoping that I can contain your thumb sucking to only when you are in bed.  We’ll see how that goes!

* You and your brother continue to share a room and it’s going fine.  You fight a good bit, but that’s to be expected with siblings.  I pray you will become close some day!

* Your hair is still filled with curls and I LOVE IT!  I cut it at home because I’m too scared to let anyone touch it.  It’s still curly, so I’m curious what will happen as you get older!

* You love to play – with puzzles, blocks, and most anything and everything else!  You love playing outside in the yard, but can play contentedly inside as well.

You are growing up so much, Davis.  I can hardly believe that our baby is growing up so quickly!  The time is flying!

* * * * * *

I'm actually cleaning/dusting the ceiling fan in our guest room. I saw this tip years ago and I've been doing it ever since, although probably not as often as I should! 🤪

Snag an old pillowcase and drag it off each blade so the dust stays inside of it. Then, wash it in your next laundry load for easy clean up!

This is where the meal magic happens in our house. This is where the meal magic happens in our house. Don't ever let anyone convince you that you have to have a large (and often expensive) kitchen in order to feed your family.
.
Is there anything wrong with a large and expensive kitchen? Nope!
.
Can they be helpful? Absolutely!
.
This house was built in the 1940s and likely housed a family our size, or maybe larger. It's amazing to think how our concept of wants and needs have changed since then.
.
Maybe someday we'll have a larger kitchen, but for now, I'm thankful that this small kitchen allows me to have everything at my fingertips quickly! 😁
"The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness "The answer to the purposelessness and hollowness we feel is found not in us but outside of us. The solutions to our problems and pain aren't found in self-love, but in God's love.

The God who created us, who created the universe, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, is the one who provides us with the purpose and satisfaction we're seeking. While self love depletes, God's love for us doesn't. He showed us his love by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we could be forgiven and live forever with him. Self-love is superficial and temporary. God's love is profound and eternal."

"The first myth that you are enough. My counter was this: you're not you'll never be enough, and that's okay, because God is."

--Allie Beth Stuckey
